20 Year Old With Receding Hairloss Need Help (W/PICS)

Hi,

20 year old male here with a receding hairloss pattern. I had orignally started a thread about a month a go about my hairloss, but didn't have any pics so people get a proper idea of the extent of my hairloss.

Just some background information, I had originally noticed about my temples thinning about a year ago, but it was so unoticable that I was struggling to convince anyone that I was going bald, let along myself. This stayed the way for about 9 months, very little happened, still wasn't convinced and didn't effect the way I looked at all. However around approximatley august 17-18th, I noticed for the first time that receding hairline had thinned quite a bit, so much that it did affect the way I look and could no longer have short fringes/quiff's.

My genetics aren't too bad, I'm almost 100% certain I have the same hairloss pattern as my dad, who has a receded hairline (at 20), but no other noticable hairloss elsewhere and he's nearly 50 now. Reckon he's a NW3 and probably heading towards a NW4 in the next 5+ or so years.

Btw, you might need to click on these to get the full size, they should about cover the screen. Yes I have dandruff cause I haven't washed my hair in over a week lol.

No problems here really, have a few scares at the back which might convince people I'm losing hair there but I appear to have always been like this.

My hairloss is probably best considered minor as I've always had a deep hairline (born with it) so even though I look like I'm a NW3, it still isn't that noticable, i.e. most wouldn't know I'm receding as I've always looked like I've receded!

My goal is to get back what I had in may/june/july, no noticeble receding hair and could easily aquire a short fringe. I still have some hair's from my original hairline so I'm quite optimistic about getting something.

Been on Propecia since the 8th, and minoxidil since the 10th this month. I'm not sure if both are necessary, so if people could give some proper help here on what would be best needed I would be greatful.

Hi,

Close-up shots are helpful, but if you could pull the camera back a bit (and cover your face if you want) to give a better visual, that might be helpful.

I wouldn't call your hairline a Norwood 3, though some of the more...reasonable posters might.

Propecia is the better drug to maintain what you have, while Minoxidil is the better stimulator. One never knows, however; you could react better or worse to each. I'd recommend just staying on Propecia.

Lol, I don't mind if people think I am Norwood 3 cause if that's the case then I've pretty much been nearly a Norwood 3 all my life then. By the way I wouldn't go out looking like this, could do with a bit of a brush and a wash but it'll do here for now (it's just after 6:30 in the morning here and I've been up since 3).

Last one is the same as the one before it, just showing you where my original hairline was (ish).

Yes, I do see some recession in those. Most normal people wouldn't notice or care, but because we're all a*** on this site, we do.

You could just have a mature hairline, or it could be male pattern baldness. I'd recommend finasteride once daily for a bit, see where that gets you.

It's definitely male pattern baldness, derm confirmed it, sure the first set photos show that anyway with all those little speradic hairs.

My biggest problem is deciding whether or not to stick with the minoxidil. I've only lost those hairs 3-4 months ago, so Propecia could bring most them back on it's own, but I'm not sure cause if the Propecia doesn't do it and the original hairs from the old hairline go, my chances of getting any sort of regrowth may have gone too.

I wish I had a concrete answer for you. The reality is that there's no way of telling how you will react to one regimen as opposed to another. Propecia can recover thinning hairs, but if you're going to play the averages, it generally maintains your current hair. I'd be agressive and stick with the Minoxidil, but that's just me.

You could always try Fina alone for 3 months, get a good growth cycle in...then reasses your strategy.

Yeah I think an aggressive approach might be best suited. If I have any chance whatsoever of getting some of my old hairline back I need to do it now before the follicles become permanently dormant.

Bear in mind I'm only looking to get the hairline I had back in May/June this year, which was probably only about 60%-70% full, If I can get anything near that I'd be delighted. I know most people claim getting a hairline back is very tough but for fact that I've only just recently lost it is giving me hope. It's not like I'm chasing a hairline that went 2 or 3 years ago or something.

Sharpshooter I'm in the exact same boat as you!

I'm also 20 and I noticed that my hairline is receding just recently for about a year.

I'll upload a pic as soon as I get a digital camera (on black friday).

Saw a nurse on this and I have propecia and rogaine on standby for now. But some of the horror stories on this forum about these drugs accelerating male pattern baldness (not just a regular shed) is the only thing holding me back. The fact that I have to use the drugs for life and possible sides like gyno isn't too cheerful either...

Don't listen to the crybaby crap on here. I've been using both Minoxidil and Propecia for 4+ years now, and they've been extremely effective for me. No sides, just regrowth.

Thanks man. I just hope that this shedding thing won't lead into something else when I decide to take a plunge into the drug.

Hi my hair is exactly like the original posters'. Could someone tell me what this is on the norwood scale? I'm also 20 and have only just noticed the hairloss. I can't work out where I am on the scale. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Only can say that my hair is pretty much the same, experiancing quite a bit of shedding, particularly around the fringe, so I guess there is a clean out like effect going on.

The only sides I'm experiancing is that my c*** seems to have gotten smaller (seriously), not all the time, but when it's limp it seems to shrivel up quite a lot, like it's been starved of blood or something. It's a problem I've never had before so I'm pretty sure it's Propecia related. Would l'arginine help this? It's not a libido problem, can easily masturbate 2-3 times a day if I wanted to, but I can't always get an erection, so it's like it's some sort of mechanism problem really. It's nothing major at the moment, but it's something I wouldn't want it to get much worse either.

Also, sometimes I've been a bit sloppy about applying the regaine\rogaine, have occasionally had some days where I've only applied it once rather than twice. I've been on it for 28 days and so it explains why my bottle still has about half a weeks worth left. This shouldn't effect my results too much should it? Particularly if I don't allow this to happen again?
