noticed my hairloss on graduation day when all my buddies started making fun of me, took me 2 more years before i took initiative and started a Spectral DNC/Revita regimen. At first i buzzed my head (big mistake at the time) spent an entire summer with a cap on. ocasionally used rogaine last summer from time to time, nothing daily so i didnt expect anything but then 08/10 i started Spectral regiment. right out the shoot i had HIGH hopes because 3 weeks later i could see baby hairs where my original juvinile hairline was so i decided to stick with it for a while. almost a year later i still have the small hairs but they just dont want to grow nice and thick.. there in the corner and over the past year have maybe grown an inch in length and there still thin and white. is this a good sign as they have grown jsut not into adult hairs yet? In all reality, my hairline would not be terrible if the sides actually grew at normal speeds and in normal thickness. Once i hit the 6-7 month and really didnt see the results i wanted with the spectral i stopped and just got on Rogaine for the past month or two.. havent really seen any results, thinking of trying spironolactone, nizoral, and then revita shampoo/conditioner on the off days. Of course i would like my old hairline back but i know i cant expect too much, but i would really like to take what i have and make all of it thick full growing and i would be happy. how can i turn these tiny white hairs into full adult hairs? Over the past year i believe i might have thinned a bit in the sides but i dont think i have receded much if any

Any suggestions on thickening the corners? my hair grows so fast eslewhere it just looks goofy and its getting hard to cover up but i dont have the confidence to buzz it off again knowing it took a year to grow them that long.I feel as if my hair line was fuller there and i grew out my hair i would much easier be able to conceal any hairloss with the right hair cut

get 5mg proscar script from doctor

cut into 4ths. doesn't have to be that accurate since 1.0mg is enough

costs 9$ for about a 4 month supply from wallmart

only 1-2% of men get sides

congrats your hairloss is now slowed to 15% of what it would otherwise be and you have a 90% chance to have more hair in 5 years then you do right now.

if that doesn't work take dutasteride

i didn't read your thread i just saw you wrote a lot of words and were trying all the other meds (minoxidil / stupid shampoos) that don't actually do anything for baldness :)

Definately get on the big 3:

finasteride to stop further loss

minoxidil (liquid not foam) to regrow some hair

Nizoral Shampoo to keep you scalp healthy and also has a very mild effect on preventing further loss.

Give it a minimum of 12 months as you wont see results for a while, and even then it takes a while for the full results to come in.

Worst case scenario is that you prevent further loss and don't regrow any extra hair.

Best case is you keep your hair and grow a fair bit of it back.

Some people get sides from finasteride but its very rare, i'd advise giving it a go and if you get sides stop, but like I said its rare that people get anything other than keeping their hair and sometimes thickening it back up.

Any questions please feel free to fire away, also check out the many stories in the Success section for pics of people's results using these products and others too.

im not opposed to trying finasteride, but i heard there are PERMANENT sexual sides. i know if i got the normal sides i could easily just quit taking it and try the topical stuff. you cant see in the pictures but pretty close to my original hairline there are white hairs, they are gaining length now but at a very slow rate. is this a sign of progess which they will in turn become adult hairs.. or is it just the opposite that they are getting smaller and they will soon be gone? the hair density is there, therse plenty of it, its just white....

IN pic 1 that IS my hairline, but its small and thin.. I know its alot to expect to ragain a straight hairline but if i can turn that into full hairs, i would be very happy because thats enough for me to be able to hide anything receding with the right haircut.. my main questions is, WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THOSE HAIRS TO GROW THICK AND FULL. right now they are dense, but thin/ light colored and they also grow at a much slower rate.

YES IF If you want to be scared hairy bald scruffy man with lots of DHT then don't do finasteride. Simple. Think you need more hormones?? then get on testosterone. Then you will have tons on DHT, happy?

Audikid it is written in stone. GET ON finasteride.

Do Nizoral shampoo also.

Do minoxidil too if you want but for heavens sake you have already wasted so much time AND IT SHOWS, might be to late to grow it back, get on finasteride yesterday.

After that feel free to wast your time and money on all the stupid herbs and magic cures and yoga etc.

You are sensitive to excess DHT. If you take finasteride then you are just backing down the DHT to a more tolerable level for you to handle. You will still have enough DHT left in your system.

You have advanced loss for your age. If you want to keep your hair and potentially grow some more hair for a few years, you need the big 3 and asap.

VERY VERY rare for anyone to have permanent sides, in fact on this board I think I have only ever heard one or two people at the most have this complaint.

That's not to say that the likes of Fred shouldn't be given a lot of sympathy for their situation, I can't begin to think of the horror of it! However it is such a rare thing to happen that i'd think it must be almost a freak occurance for this situation to arise.

Hard to say about the white hairs... I have some, and some turned black through minoxidil, some didnt, there is no hard and fast rule here. I'd definately look at it as a promising sign though.

As already stated, there is no way for you to not suffer more loss over the next few years and beyond unless you get on a DHT blocker. finasteride is the most common, and seems to work well for most people.

Its also well known to get on something early on in your loss or you'll always be wishing you'd started before your hair loss was noticable.

I also think its a realistic expectation to halt your hairl loss with the big 3, regrowth is just a bonus should it happen.

:jackit: Don't be a dickhead Fred.

An antiandrogen is your only hope of saving your hair, and finasteride is the only realistic choice. You can get a prescription for it and get it cheap.

Been using for 11 months now, no sides.

Publix supermarket in usa. Seen it other places too, can't remember...

Technically finasteride is not an anti-androgen, it is a 5ar inhibitor acting only directly on the 5ar enzyme preventing it from converting testostorone (T) into DHT. Typically you will see an increase your T levels, 10-15%.
