I just turned 21, I ve noticed that my hair looks a bit thin at the hairline when styled in certain ways. My hair wasn't something i paid much attention to so i don't remember if this has always been the same. Also, I ve noticed that a few of my hair that I shed is thinner in diameter than the others. Is that miniaturisation? I ve posted pictures of the hair I shed.

I ve taken pictures of my hair under fluorescent light in the bathroom while it was wet and slicked back the best i could. Another point to note is that my hair has always been very dry, frizzy and wavy and maybe that could be why. I need some honest opinions. I'd rather suck it up now and do something about instead of living in denial until its too late.

This is what mine looks like to an extent. Same age too. Honestly, I don't know what it is either but I'm simply guessing it's a form of Androgenetic Alopecia. Mine doesn't she'd one bit anymore. I'm getting tests done in a month to find out more.

I can't tell for sure but you may have some miniaturization at the hairline. But it could just be hair in a different growth cycle.

I m hoping its not actually hair loss. I m gonna go to a derm pretty soon, always avoided it because I m scared to know the answer.

Make sure you go to a good derm. The first one I asked about it just looked at my scalp from about two feet away and said he thinks he sees a bald spot and it's male pattern baldness. I didn't have a bald spot, it was all diffuse. Then he said to stay away from propecia and he even said he didn't recommend rogaine........

I'm right there with you. I'm still am a bit in denial but I at least know I have some that's genetic. I'm hoping when I get my tests done I'll have a glimmer of hope that it's not all Androgenetic Alopecia.

Thanks for the advice man, I ll visit a hair transplant surgeon for a consultation instead. They specialise in hair so I'm certain they ll give me sound advice.

I ve also taken pictures of my hair when its dry while facing direct sunlight aswell as under regular lighting. My hair looks very thick when styled with pomade and pushed to one side, but i feel like my hair is diffusing. One thing I've noticed is that the hair at the front feels drier in comparison to the hair at the back. Is this diffuse damage?

Man, it is crazy how similar my hair situation is to your's. I'm not sure about what might be causing it to be dry up front, unless you blow dry it. I style my hair as well and I think if you're not careful it and too rough it can cause a degree of traction alopecia too. You definitely are diffuse thinning, whether or not it's Androgenetic Alopecia or something else will be answered by a derm. Keep me posted bro!

You don't have diffuse thinning. Scalp is always visible when hair is wet. Your hair looks great, by the way. When you start seeing through scalp when hair is dry, then we talk.

I do use a moderate amount of heat everyday to break up some of the wave in my hair and to tame frizz, guess it was counter productive. I will visit a derm soon enough, I ll let you know what they say

I did post pictures of my dry hair under direct sunlight in the replies. What do you think?

Trying taking a picture with your hair pushed forward and wet with no gel. This will help me see. A little bit of scalp showing when wet is normal, but that much seems more than normal. That "see through hair when dry" thing is BS. There are diffuse thinners on here who have very little see through hair when the hair is dry, but when it's wet it's a different story.
