So my dad and a couple others have been telling me I've started to lose hair on the back of my head for the last year or so, and I pretty much just ignored it because I figured it wasn't so bad. Well, after getting a haircut tonight, I decided to look, and it is so much worse than I could've imagined. There's no other hair loss anywhere else, just this weird spot. Does anyone have suggestions as to what it might be? It just seems atypical to me because of the odd shape. Is there any way to cure this? What kind of doctor do I need to see, and in the mean time is there anything I can do myself to help this? This is now hugely embarrassing since I've seen it myself. 1104142331.jpg1104142331a.jpg1104142331b.jpg

It is not weird at all. It is called crown loss. Propecia is the way to go if you want to try to grow it back. See a doctor that knows about hair loss and have ask him about getting a script for propecia. Lastly, ask your Doctor about potential sides from the drug. Don't rely on getting the whole truth from a bunch of random guys on the internet.

I know it kinda sounds hard to believe, but your lucky to have your hairline in contact. Trying out propecia is your best bet. Also add some minoxidil if you want to..

Thanks for the responses guys, I appreciate it. Are propecia and minoxidil only available through doctors' prescription or is there something I can get over the counter while I wait for my appointment? I'm working a pretty heavy schedule the next couple months so I'm not sure when I'll have time to go...

Guess worst case scenario I just buzz my entire head.

Start the big 3 which includes, most importantly, finasteride. The minoxidil can be taken once or twice daily

minoxidil can be bought without a script. So can finasteride, just go to alldaychemist.com and search finasteride. Just take 1mg or 1.25mg daily. You can order minoxidil off here too

I went ahead and ordered some minoxidil and also some biotin, since I saw that in related products on amazon and people were giving positive thoughts about that as well. Hopefully this stuff will work... even if I don't see regrowth, just stopping further loss would be great.

looks like mine OP, I am 23 as well. Very little frontal recession. Even has that "double whorl" pattern

On the bright side, mine "closed up" to a fairly unnoticeable. Regiment which might help you:

.5mg finasteride (the side effects are more rare and less severe than internet makes them out to be)
1000mg of Saw Palmetto extract (500mg twice a day)
Nizoral twice a week
Hair Surge shampoo seems to help as well but it is pricey. Just makes hair appear thicker, doesn't seem to really regrow anything.
