Hi guys,

I've been reading this forum a lot for the past few months but never wrote a thing... Like you guys, I never thought that I would become bald :/
I really don't know when it all started since I can't find pictures of me with short hair. And as you can see on the pictures, it's really easy not to spot anything when I have longer hair. Regarding my family, my dad is 64 and has a full head of hair but is a strong NW2 I would say. My uncles from both sides have even more hair. The only bald person was my grand-father (my mom's side)

In January, I was so obsessed with my hair that I went crazy and shaved it (I used my electric razor haha) and took a few pictures. I also just took some pictures today. What do you think I am? NW2-3?

Should I go in finasteride? I'm on Saw Palmetto and have no sides (I just had some pain once in the left nut but that's it).
What about minoxidil? The only place to apply it would be on the temples, is it worth trying?

Thanks guys for your help ;)

Seems completely fine to me for the moment. But regarding your grandfather, yes, watch it and get on finasteride if it gets worse.

If Norwood 1 can be considered a mature hairline, then you're Norwood 1.

Your left temple looks more recessed than your right. Pay attention to that one and consider pharmaceutical treatments if you notice any more recession in that area.

Thanks guys for your replies!

I will monitor the evolution and take finasteride if I have to.
But just to answer to LosingHairIsNotFair, it's just because the hair was really short but I'm pretty sure it's not thinning anywhere.

Only two treatments to consider:

Finasteride and Minoxidil as thats all that works for hair loss, lol.

LMAO...he's diffuse thinning across the entire top and you're saying hes completely fine. he needs to get on finasteride or dutasteride ASAP. i swear bald guys just revel in a Norwood 1 guy losing his hair.

Your granpa on your mom's side could definitely be the culprit. Male Patterned Baldness (male pattern baldness) is genetic and always from the mother's side. I can see that you have a lot of thinning at the top and hair loss at the temples, that's usually the pattern of male pattern baldness but you may want to consult a dermatologist just to be sure. Honestly minoxidil only works for the crown not the temples so I would bother. finasteride has some pretty scary side effects. Have you tried a ketoconazole shampoo yet? maybe give a 1% a try then work your way up the treatment chain. The ketoconazole shampoo I use also has saw palmetto in it also. Best of luck!

Oh yeah, dude...you see that little gap between your forelock and the rest of your hair? I had that as well when my hair was longer and I am a diffuse thinner. Not that it is indicative of diffuse thinning (it may be, I'm not sure!). Here's my diffuse thinning hair...http://s1217.photobucket.com/user/Peter_Charles11/media/Photoon2-27-14at951AM.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1
See what I'm saying? But don't freak out or anything. Go to a dermatologist and ask him/her if you have miniaturization. Do the hairs on top of your head look smaller in diameter/length than the hairs on the side?
