24 Years Old And Presumably Balding - Where To From Here?

Hi,

A few months ago I noticed that my hair was thinning out at my temples, so I decided to shave my head to see if I could deal with being bald for the rest of my life. I prefer having hair it seems, and so I'd like to know what would be the best option to take from here?

Kind of a bit anxious about Propecia and etc, as I haven't had children or anything like that yet, and so not really looking to become infertile.

Also, as I shaved it myself, it probably looks a bit more thin/hairline looks a bit more receded as for some reason I didn't shave it evenly (especially the fringe).

Take finasteride and you'll regain and maintain all your hair until something new comes out.. presumably quite soon too with the sounds of things.

Out of curiosity, do you take finasteride? And if so, have you had any side effects?

Also, do you think my hair has thinned out/receded much? And is there a particular term to describe the stage my hair is at?
I've attached a pic of what my hairline was like a few weeks ago prior to my hair growing out.

Norwood 2 approaching a Norwood 3 fast with what looks to be the beginning of diffuse thinning. You'll likely be bald within the next 10 years if you don't start taking precautionary steps soon.

Oh wow, I didn't think it was that bad. I was thinking of waiting till the new year to decide on whether I should take any form of medication, as I had previously seen a dermatologist (while my hair was long) who suggested that my hair hadn't really thinned out or receded too much yet. Though maybe things have changed a lot in a month or two?

Was your hair at a similar stage to mine?

Also, is there anything else I can do that will be reasonably successful beyond taking finasteride? As I'm pretty scared of the side effects and don't really care all that much about being bald in the future, just not while I'm in my 20s.

Similar but a little bit worse imo... Besides finasteride the only FDA approved med for hairloss is minoxidil but thats to grow new hair, no maintain the one you have. Other than that you can try ru, spironoloctane, saw palmetto... Search a little bit and you'll find other options that may work but havent been proved to work by the FDA yet

Would you also describe my current hairline as a NW2-NW3 like the other guy? As I don't think it's at that stage yet, though it definitely is thinning a bit.

I guess I'll probably end up on fina.. though can't imagine taking it for years on end...

Bro just stop asking, wasting time and get on finasteride. As of now it's your only hope until something new approaches. We'll hopefully be able to thank tsuji for essentially curing baldness during the 22 century anyway so right now it's simply a game of maintenance. Hold on to what you've got and when the time comes that something new is available to us, grab it.

You definitely need finasteride. If you leave your hair untreated, chances are you'll be bald in another decade from now. Finasteride is the only thing we currently have that really does work. Better treatments are expected to come out in the future, but for the time being, it is pretty much finasteride or nothing.

Some of the future stuff people constantly mention in the forums is a pipe dream. tsuji is going to cure male pattern baldness? I see people mention that over and over. Until its done and if its ever done we dont know if it will ever happen.
Maintaining is the best we have now if your lucky, and it might be that way for a long long time. Do you have any idea how expensive something like tsuji would be? You better play the lottery with all your left over money if you want that. Even if tsuji comes out things like propecia and minoxidil will be much much much cheaper and probably better options than a much more expensive more permanent fix. New things dont obsolete old ones a lot of times in medicine.

Either start treating it with Minoxidil and Finasteride (but make sure to consider side effects) or don't worry about it and just live life.

Happens to the best of us :p

Is there a particular reason you wanted to know my age, by the way?
