Hey guys, another bloke here concerned with their hairline!

I'm pretty confused. Every male in my family has never suffered male pattern baldness, we all have extremely thick hair. My grandfather even has a full head of thick hair and he's in his 90's. My father always told me I'd never have to worry about hair loss growing up so I never even took notice of it going into my 20's. Every time I go to the barber they say how thick my hair is and have to thin it.

So when I shaved my head I noticed I have a very horse shaped hairline, my temples have receded but I'm not sure if my hairline was always that shape because I never took notice of it. I can see thin bits of hair on the temples so this indicated recession has happened, but is it normal? Could it just be a "mature hairline" Overall my hair is extremely thick still.

Please let me know if it's a cause for concern because I'd like to take action if it's receding. I also asked and showed my doctor and he said it isn't male pattern baldness and that I'm fine but I'm not convinced. I've suffered from a lot of stress in my life and think it might be from that or medications I've used

Here are some photo's, thanks in advance!

Hey yes I can see your post. Sometimes it takes a while for people to reply. You look about Norwood 2. If you are worried about future loss then try finasteride and minoxidil.

The Norwood scale is a scale used to gauge hair loss. 2 is a mature hairline, typical of most adult men. It may just stay there, your crown looks good. If you notice any further hair loss then hop on minoxidil and finasteride. I made the mistake of thinking I just had a mature hairline when I had longer hair but now that I have cut it short I see that I have more advanced hair loss. Everybody is different though.

Gotchya. I'll keep a close eye on it. If I hop on minoxidil and finasteride is it possible for my temples area to grow back?

Yes it is possible to grow your temples back, especially if you are a good responder to minoxidil.

"Do not use if:
* you do not have a family history of hair loss"

Says that under the product I was looking at...

Well if you don't have a family history of hair loss, you might be safe from experiencing future hair loss and may not need it. But there is always the chance you could, I have read on forums like this about people experiencing hair loss even though their family didn't. And in fact, my neighbor is only about 27 and is already totally bald but his male relatives on both sides of his family all have full heads of hair into their 50s and 60s. Everyone is different. For now, you might just want to watch your hairline and see if it stays the same or gets worse.
