Hello,

Noticed my hairline being a little different

I went to one Derm. He said my hairline is just moving back a little nothing abnormal.

I went to another Derm. He said hairline is receding you have male pattern baldness. I asked will I go bald. He said very unlikely.(I thought this was like an oxymoron. Didn't make sense how can I have male pattern baldness but not go bald?) I have no thinning on crown & back at all. Just temples . Hopefully that stays.

I am scheduled for a another Derm October.

I ask my family around me they say I am crazy. Just what Derm 2 told me worried me.

Family History:

Mother: Full hair
Father: Full Hair
Grandfather(Dad): Full Hair
Grandfather(Mom): balding at 16 with greying hair
Grandmother(Dad) Full hair
Grandmother(Mom): Full hair
Great Grandfather(Mom): Similiar to Grandfather thsi was his father
Great Grandmother(Mom): full head of hair
Great grandfather(mom): ful head of hair at 101
Great Grandmother(Mom): full head of hair at 99

Pictures below. tahnk you in advance. excuse the ugly mug.

There is some minor temple recession which may be indicative of a "mature hair line". Monitor (don't obsess) and if it progresses you can decide to start treatment. Your crown (sofar) appears intact. Are you noticing more hair fall than usual?

Btw your mug is far from "ugly". Best of luck.

First off thank you ID Walker. Hair wise falling out nothing unusual. I mean nothing on pillow case or drain clogging or anything. At first I thought tons of hair was falling out but I do not know if that was me analyzing every single strand I lost or it is just falling into that normal 30-80 hairs a day you can lose. Thank you I will monitor & maybe the 3rd derm on hair will give me a little more elaboration.

Thank you for your input.

I'm guessing you told the second dermatologist about your family history, which doesn't have much baldness aside from your maternal grandfather's family, which would be how he came to that conclusion. Not everyone with male pattern baldness is destined to look like George from Seinfeld - some just get a bald spot and some recession and it never gets any worse. 16 is really young though... how does your maternal grandfather's hair rate on the Norwood scale? The fact that you're only noticing loss at 25 shows that you'll probably not go bald in the same way he did, but genes are pretty unpredictable, so it'd be good to keep it in mind.

Cosigning the previous posts about nothing more than minor recession, though it's hard to tell as none of the pics show your entire hairline.

BTW, off-topic, and not sure how you feel about this, but it looks like you might have some good genes for longevity looking at your matrilineal great-grandparents' ages! Is your grandmother herself still alive and in good health?

My grandfather that is bald is complete bald.

Yes both are still alive at 97 & 101. It is amazing actually. I hope I have their genes. They still walk, cook, & drive. He is donating his body to Yale because Yale reached out to him about examining his body because it is kind of unnatural. he swears that a glass of milk with wheat germ in morning, followed by walking outside taking 5 deep breaths of fresh air. He also has tea & whiskey before he goes to bed everyday.

Thank you.

It looks like your right side is receding but your left is perfectly fine. I've heard online that a receding hairline does't occur symmetrically and usually happens on the right side but i am no expert. it looks ok for now but maybe speak to a dermotologist for further guidance.
