Hello all I found this board while searching the internet for a hair loss discussion forum, from the looks of things it seems like i came to the right place. I am a 25 yr old male, and I've been experiencing minor hair loss for about 2 years now, i just assumed it was just natural hair loss. Recently, over the past few months i've noticed more hair loss than normal when i shower although i haven't noticed much hair loss on my pillow from when i sleep. I am finally starting to notice that my hair IS thinning especially on the crown of my head. It isn't too noticeable right now, although the fact that i have long hair may be helping in that regard. Regardless, i'm pretty sure i'm in the very early stages of hair loss and i want to 'nip it in the bud' so to speak. Even if i didn't regain any hair, just maintaining the hair that i have now would be a very satisfactory result for me. I'm thinking of using 5% rogaine foam and taking some sort of dht blocker pills, but seeing as how i'm completely new to this hair loss thing i am unsure whether or not this is the correct approach to take. I know i want to start some type of treatment plan so i can as i said before 'nip it in the bud'. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!!

Rogain is a good idea,

This will atleast stop the balding process... Be warned though, this does cause shedding in some people that will make it seem like you are lossing alot more hair after taking it, it is something you have to stick with for atleast 2-3 months to really start the process of regrowth.

If you have any pics that would help.

If Rogaine does not stop the balding, jump on the big 3 for the best results possible: Rogaine, Propecia and Nizoral. Rogain is a foam applied twice a day, Propecia is a perscription drug taken daily and Nizoral is a shampoo applied 2-3 times a week.

thanks for the advice. i plan on getting starting rogaine within the next week or so, i hope i see some real results. what do you think would be more easy for me to use the liquid or the foam? i have long hair, probably about 6 inches long and i really would prefer not to cut it short although if i had to i would. also, i'm a little worried about the amount of shedding i'll be seeing..does everyone see massive amounts of shedding or does it only happen to a few?

Cooliobeanz,

So far I've been on the big 3 since Sep. 97. At my age, 44, my results have been encouraging, although I have been experiencing some minor shedding. Basically, while I'm shampooing, I notice more strands of hair on my hand than before I started using my current regimen. Whether this constitutes shedding is open for debate.

I've heard it stated through out this site that shedding is a good sign after using these products. In fact, my hair is thicker on top and in my forward hairline area. There is also new hair growth on my bald spot in my crown area.

I think now would be a good time for you to start and not to wait like I did til much later in life. Your results will more than likely be better than mine since I've been balding for roughly 25 years, albeit very slowly. I recommend using Rogaine foam over the liquid simply because it's much easier and less messy to use.

By the way, you did come to the right place despite the fact that sometimes some of the members tend to get in to some "spirited debates". But if you weed through all of that, you'll find some good info here like I did. I wish you luck.
