ive been on finasteride for 2 years 5 months,only sides ive got are an increased libido

ignorance is bliss, It's funny that anyone can sit there and act as if cutting off such a large amount of dht can have no negative effects... and anyone who does have those negative effects is crazy..that's a comfortable way of staying entirely in the dark about the fact that there are sides, they do happen not to everyone and maybe not even the majority but it's more then 2%

Simply because some of you took propecia and never got any side effects doesn't mean they are a myth, I'm sure some of the people on propeciahelp are simply looking for a shoulder to b**ch on but I find it very very hard to believe that every single one of them is full of sh*t.

I personally experienced sides and I'm mildly sure I'm not crazy at least not about hairloss, They weren't extreme and they didn't ruin my life as some people seem to state about finasteride.. however they have made me decide to drop propecia in the past, although I always seem to pick it up again since hairloss is a side effect of not taking propecia. I got a mild case of man boobs nothing you'd find on google but a difference, decrease in sex drive although I never had trouble getting it up just a decrease in the amount of times I'd want to get it up, And My facial hair stopped coming in, which I think is due to the fact I started taking propecia before the recommended age, Either way the sides do exist maybe not on such a large scale as some would say but people get them more then some would like to believe.

What exactly makes you say its more than 2%? A general "feeling"? Well your general feeling doesnt tell us anything, at all.

Dont get me wrong here. I started this thread, so of course I want a discussion about eventual sides.
But in this case I have a general feeling that you dont really know what you are talking about, and more or less criticize the unknown just because its unknown.

Numerous scientist tells us it wont affect most people. You tell us "of course it will!". Well, then I think you should let the world of science know what you obvsiously know.

Again, I dont mean to be rude, and there is still a small chance you know what your are talking about. So dont take this as a personal attack or anything. Though, I am pretty tired of people saying anything they dont understand must be evil.

If that was the case I woudnt start a thread like this. If I was 100% certain about the effects I woudnt have to discuss it with others.

Personally I still think the evidence points towards the original studies, meaning only a few % get sides, mostly minor, that probably go away after discountinuation. People are going to have more severe problems in life, and with a few million users, some of these people will have taken propecia when they get them. From what I gather most of the problems are probably not connected with propecia, they just happened to coincide. But that doesnt mean propecia hasnt done the harm on other people.

Problem is the drug has been used for ~30(?) years mostly on older people. And about 10 years on people like me. The fact that its so early still raise concerns, mostly because we (and science!) doesnt really have all the answers as to what it does. So even if my choice is to use it, as I think its pretty "safe", its still a good idea to keep updated as Im allways open to change my mind.

What I hate is comments like "definatly more than 2%!" without any thoughts behind it, other than someone has read 100 posts on the internet and 50 people had sides, and thus came to the conclusion 50% must have sides. Even more anoying is people that say it obviously has sides because it alters things in our body. Well, you´d be suprised how many things you eat that alters your body in significant ways without you even thinking about it.

Seriously if we where to exclude psykolocical effects (wich we cant, but anyway) I´d still say 2%-3% minor sides is a number that might hold up. But again, im allways open to change my mind in the future. But even if it is, you might be one of this 2%-3%. I dont think many people argue that there´s no potential sides.

Yes, unfortunately this forum contains a troll or two that don't know when to keep their two cents to themselves. I'm surprised you haven't been told that "Propecia is for men only" by one of these clowns. Don't let that discourage you from posting about your sides if you're getting them. You will always find plenty of support here. Don't let these few individuals get to you. They obviously thrive on mocking others that they deem "less" than themselves, and probably are very meek and humble in real life and this their way to feel superior to someone...by anonymously trolling side effect forums even if they don't have them, and mocking those that complain of them. I pity these posters actually. It's very sad.

I definatly agree. In a lot of cases it might be a pedagogic failiure rather than just being mean though.
A lot of people has probably come to the same conclusion as I have; that a lot of these sides are psykological and that the user is not aware of it. So, in a sense, when someone makes a post about Propecia making him depressed, and someone says to him that it probably has nothing to do with Propecia, he might be right as the odds might just dictate that its probably not a side from Propecia and totaly unrelated. However, no one wants to hear a responce like: "its probably all in your head, dont be a pu**y".

Depression is something im pretty certain a lot of people have/will blame on Propecia without reason. Simply because lots and lots and lots and lots of people, maybe even a majority of people in the western civilisation, gets anxiaty attacks/mild depression from time to time and from the amature studies I have done I have realized most people are not aware of the fact that they normaly have these kinds of swings. When they feel down, its allways "the first time ever they feel this way", and its because something else. Its a girl, its the economy, its the Jobs market... Its finasteride. Are people too proud to realize it or what? Im not sure why its that way.

A friend of mine is feeling really down at the moment. I talked to him a few days ago, and he kept saying he dont get it. Everything seems worthless, meaningless... He stopped using nicotine(spelling?) a few months ago, and at first he blamed that. But as he was still feeling low now, he asked me what could be wrong.
I told him the truth: At this period last year he was misserable for no obvious reason, and for a long time. Kept asking what he was supposed to do with his life, kept saying this lifestyle doesnt lead anywhere. He even wished for a WW3 so "something would happen"!
Even though I´ve studied this kind of behaviour I was amazed when he answered: "No, I wasnt. This is different. I´ve never been down this way before". :shock: And I know for a fact he has had these exact swings his whole life! I kept insisting it was the same way last year, and finaly he answered "Alright, maybe.. Must have been <[insert random girl here]>".

Whats interesting is that its actually the comon behaviour around these "rich" parts of the world. People are often depressed, for no obvious reason. And most people dont want to admit it. Its something else.. And in the case of medication, it usually has the potential side of depression. Finasteride, and medication like it, is a real easy target for anyone not in control of their own emotions. Wich, sadly, is most people.

The whole reason I´ve been studying the subject is that without the studies I did, I myself most definatly would feel like sh*t more than most people do. And thats a lot of sh*t. And I´d definatly blame it on finasteride and quite, even though I have not yet (/knock on wood) had any actual sides.

After making a fool of myself several times, I've learned not to trust ANYTHING on the Internet. For example, go to http://www.askdocweb.com or something like that. It's a site that "reviews" hair loss products, with thousands of customer reviews. I went there, read through them all, noticed that they all came in at different times, noticed that they were still coming in from day to day, so I took the plunge and hopped on Pro Cerin, which is what they recommended. All the reviews of Propecia were strong as well, but their overall analysis was that the sides were much more common than reported earlier.

Years later, I went back to check on that site again (it was still growing) and to my chargrin because my internet was slow that day, noticed that the link it gave to the Procerin site was a referral (it was hidden pretty well, not obvious). Someone went to an incredibly huge amount of hassle just to flood the internet with bad rumors about Propecia - and I mean a WHOLE lot of trouble. I couldn't believe it. There are the obvious "blogs" but this one was pretty well done.

Ye gods. I wouldn't be surprised if this "site" is the same thing. Personally, I've been on Propecia for about five months now. I am regrowing hair slowly. I have no sides. I talked to my doctor (who I visited for the prescription), and he said that out of all the men that he's been prescribing it to, only one of them has complained of sides - and the sides went away after 2 weeks. I still have sex at least every other day. I'm still happy. I'm not stupid enough to assume that I may never get sides, but for now why worry?

EDIT: Also, I can bet you that anyone having sides thanks to Propecia is about 100x more likely to hop on an internet forum and complain about it than someone who is having no issues whatsoever.
