26 Years Old With Thinning Vertex/crown.

Hey everyone, new here.

About 2-3 months ago I noticed when slicking my hair back with pomade I could see more of my scalp. At first I thought it was just my double crown (always a nuisance when styling hair since I was a child) but it’s gotten worse the past couple of months, my hair has definitely thinned out, now I don’t style my hair at all. My hair is pretty curly and when left natural the thin area doesn’t seem as noticeable. (In the attached picture my hair is damp and put in a way to best show the thinning area.)

I’m waiting on some blood tests, which I’ll hopefully get tomorrow. I’ve been experiencing a whole host of symptoms that my doctor said point to thyroid problem or possible anemia (I’m vegan and have been nonchalant about my diet recently) I’ve also noticed an increase in falling eyelashes and eyebrows.

Having said all that it looks to me to be classic male pattern baldness. I dunno how I’d look with a shaved head, I have always had a high forehead and faint eyebrows, I do however have a decent beard. I can live with losing my hair, but at 26 I feel like maybe I could use Finasteride to maintain and maybe thicken what I do have for a couple of years?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

It is thinning .
You are right: finasteride could help you. Even minoxidil.

Yep doctor has got me on Finasteride 1.25mg/daily, one week in and no sides yet - touch wood.

Might look into nizoral? Based shampoo. With that is it like minoxidil in that it needs to be used consistently to maintain results? Minoxidil, I’ve heard works well for crown/vertex area, but I don’t think I can afford to put that in my routine just now, but something I will think about.

I believe nizoral doesn’t really have much of an effect at all. It just helps with inflammation. Twice a week is good, any more and you may do some damage.

If anyone can chime in on nizoral that’d be great because I don’t really know much about it aside from that, even though it’s still in my regimen.

So I’ve been on finasteride three weeks and one day. Just last week I started noticing a lot of hair shedding. It’s still happening. I haven’t noticed a shed until now.

Here’s a picture after three weeks, I know it’s too soon for results, but was concerned with all the shedding, but it still doesn’t look too bad. Anyone have experience with such shedding so soon into Finasteride? I suppose it could be coincidental.

Three month update. Pretty happy to see some progress! Although, my hairline has worsened.

I was born with a naturally high hairline and am struggling as to whether my cows lick and high hairline has receded or if it’s just body dyspmorphia (if I styled my hair a certain way even when I was 13 some people would think I were balding)

That aside, is finasteride effective on the temples? I’m happy with what I currently have and if I can maintain that, then awesome! Should I perhaps add Derma stamp into the equation? I’m not keen on committing to minoxidil. Currently I just have 5mg finasteride cut into 4 daily. Cheers.

Is this the same condition as the picture you posted before? Meaning is it as wet? If so there’s a definite improvement!
