hey, i have been on finasteride for 3 mos. now . for the first two months everything seemed to go well. however 3 weeks ago i started shedding PROFUSELY. im losing thick and thin, long and short from almost everywhere but mainly in the front and it doesnt appear to be growing back because the short hairs are failing out too. shouldnt i be getting more growth by now?

That's right. And despite what it looks like, the shed is a good sign. Ride it out my friend, and in 4 to 6 you'll be glad.

4'9" is the magic number for kids in a booster seat. Damn commercials.

And 4-8 months is the magic range for finasteride regrowth.

Exact same thing's happening to me. And it's RIGHT when I'm about to switch from propecia to finpecia. :( It's making me very scared and think about wasting an extra 200 bucks just to be sure I'm doing all I can, but that would probably be stupid.

Same thing is happening with me right now. Have been on Proscar and minoxidil for 4 months today with some regrowth on my hairline - mostly on the left side. My hairloss is gradually slowing also. I have terrible loss at the centre of my hairline however a considerable amount of new regrowth appearing. I hope the next wave of regrowth will cover in the front as i can now see my scalp. Hold in there results do happen but it takes time.

I just hope someone at the 8month mark can jump in and give me some positives words about there success because right now my hairs a b**ch!.

as of ytday ive been on finasteride/min/nizoral for one year, shedding shedding shedding but never gone below baseline and always improving, the miniaturised hairs are reversing all the time, and my left temple is creeping back down, right one not so much, but i have tons of vellus hair on the temples as well, ive heard best results from the big three are between 15-24 months, and at the pace im going i can totally understand that, dont worry sheds are a good thing and yea its tough to sit it out but many many people on here do,good luck! :hairy:

Just wondering since im about to start finasteride pretty soon but do you guys do anything to compensate for the shed? i.e. cut your hair shorter?

Don't Forget

Shedding while trying something new takes months, so give it time... Also, you are probably taking Propecia way too often. 1mg every 72 hours is all you need for your follicles to react - more than that simply hurts your liver - do NOT listen to the quacks or idiots in the forum who tell you otherwise. Use a product like Rogaine as well as Propecia for optimum results - i.e. to keep what you gain. Good luck!

This guy knows the dosages better than the people who made the drug and tested it for many years. Don't take the recommended dose, or you'll DIE!

if it is so bad on your liver how can people take proscar at 5 mg for their prostate? i dont think the sides would be worse taking 1 mg ed vs. eod. I think i will stay on 1 mg ed for until i see progress, then i will condsider eod.

Read Dr. Lee's site at minoxidil.com. It will tell of a rare side effect in some people about profuse shedding. Or maybe become a patient of his on-line, only $20. Anyway, if just profuse shedding in front, it may not be that horrible side effect he discusses, just normal shedding.

dudes

dont quit ur medicine guys, stick with it and also stop thinkin about ur hair that much, if u keep thinking about it u will en up loosing it. Just take ur medicine (propecia or minoxidil) as a normal habit, u know such as brushing ur teeth or as taking ur contacts off. KEEP UR TREATMENT AND STOP WORRYING
if u keep worrying u WILL lose ur hair
