32, always had a full, thick head of hair. Last 6 months or so, have noticed the front hairline corners, above the temples (not the temples themselves) have started to thin out and recede. The rest of of my hair has no visible signs of thinning or recession.
I went to two doctors. One, a general derm, looked at me for a few seconds and just wrote me a prescription for propecia and said "give it a try". Another I went to, a hair loss specialist (also dermatologist) did a microscope test on my areas of my hair and said he saw no signs of "miniaturization", including the front of the hairline, except for the spaces/thinning in the front corners. He recommended no medication and said at worse I'd become a norwood 2 at which point just get a transplant on the corners if they really space out. He also said the medicine wouldn't do much for the corners anyway and mostly work on top, vertex and crown.
So now I'm in a bind of what to do. Should I just start the finasteride just in case? I'm worried about the sides, especially as someone who seems to ALWAYS get those "rare" side effects when taking medication. And I don't want to take something that isn't right for my situation anwyay. But also, I don't want to lose more of my hair.
In terms of my family, the only straight up norwood 4 or worse is a few cousins. The rest have some thinning or receding hair, but no baldness (and they didnt think out until later in life).
What do you guys think? Pics for reference.
