39 Yo Losing The Battle For My Hair And Hating It

Hey guys. First time posting

I’m almost 39, been using Finasteride and Rogaine for 10 years plus. Thought I was in the clear as I had maintained a pretty decent head of hair during that time but it seems genetics have doubled down over the last year. A ton of diffuse thinning in the middle of my head and vertex which has always been really thick.

I was always worried about my hairline so this diffuse thinning in the back has really thrown me. My main issue is that during the day, so long as I shampoo and blow dry I can style it and it looks like I have pretty thick hair. But if I don’t shampoo or if I sweat a ton at the gym it’s like cotton candy when wet and then reality sets in. Should I give in and shave this down? Meeting with Hasson and Wong this Saturday for a consultation but not hopeful as finasteride appears to have lost its effectiveness so a hair transplant would likely go badly for me down the road

Just wanted to vent I guess, this has bothered me so much lately to the point that it’s consumed my thought process which I hate. The hardest part for me as that most people I interact with don’t realize that I have lost so much hair but I can tell and it’s getting worse every day

I think a lot of guys are in your boat. Finasteride didn't work for me at all. but luckily there are other options. Have you looked into Ru58841? Its not fda approved which is why you may have never heard of it but it works wonders at blocking dht from binding to your hair follicles. It not only stopped my hair loss but thickened as well. Its more expensive than finasteride but the most affordable source is here: https://www.qualityru.com/product-p/qualityru01.htm

You are golden bro. Just do this hair regimen which I use and you will get 100 percent of your hair back I promise.

Finasteride. No side effects at all.
Minoxidil morning and night. Plus .5 dermapen for absorbtion every morning. 1.5 mm dermapen once a week.

I take Sawpalmetto(blocks dht), Pygeum(blocks dht), biotin. Coconut oil+cayenne pepper oil mixture every day or other day for 30 minutes or more.(cayenne blocks cannibinoids from marijuana use, which can cause hair loss. And it stimulates new hair growth).

I use an inversion table about 15 to 30 minutes a day spread out in like 5 minute increments.

I massage coconut oil with a brush on my scalp for around 10 minutes a day or other day. Brush or fingertips. Doesnt matter.
Also I do fingernail rubbing around 10 minutes a day throughout the day.(stimulates the hair follicles).

Your hair looks great! I would not get hair transplant if I were you. You can hold off another 10-15 years from the looks of it. finasteride started wearing off on me around that time frame—11 to 13 year mark. I then switched to 1/3 of a 5 mg finasteride (so from 1 mg to 1.67 mg) about 5 or 6 years ago and I’m doing ok. I posted pics on a thread titled “45 years and been on finasteride 18 years...” for reference.

Back with an update. Went through a pretty massive shed and a bout with seborrhic dermatitis. Took a hit in the density department as a result

In the last couple of days I switched from generic 5mg Finasteride to Merck proscar. Noticed the generic I was getting from CVS is from India now instead of teva which I believe is out of Israel. Not expecting it to help much but figured it can’t hurt. Still using the minoxidil foam but backed off to 1x day due to the scalp inflammation

Got my hair cut pretty short the other day and took a pic right out of the shower. Have never seen that much scalp before! Hair still looks decent when dry so I’m thankful for that at least

I’ve got major respect for the guys that go through this at a young age. In my twenties I just wanted to make it to 30. Now that I’m almost 40 and losing some ground it’s still really affecting my day to day life! Hope to one day get to the point where I don’t care as much and focus on things I know are more important

If you've got the money a hair transplant can probably buy you another decade of good hair. Hopefully by then there will be new treatment options.

I can vouch for coconut oil as well. I doubt it does much for actual hair loss but it sure makes my hair look amazing.

You've got the type of hair that still looks thick even when balding but only when it's a bit longer. As I keep on saying don't cut your hair very short unless you're prepared to see how bald you really are. I'm the same age as you btw so you're not alone, it definitely still hurts for a lot of older guys too.

Your pessimism is out of proportion. I think at 39 you have great hair and conditions are normal for your age. If i were you I would be satisfied with that hair.

When God drives his "children" to use finasteride.

Poor guy.
