5 Months on Generic finasteride...Hair Only Getting Worse

Hey all, I started taking generic finasteride in mid-July, as it's only $10 at my pharmacy compared to $90 for the same 30-day supply of Propecia. My doctor told me that the generic stuff is 80% the same as Propecia, but it appears that it's not working. My hairline seems to be receding at a more rapid rate, and I'm losing density on top as well to the point where I can now see my scalp a lot more easily than I could a few months ago. I added Nizoral twice a week to my regimen a few months ago. Not looking to do minoxidil yet as I would like to first see if finasteride is effective with me.

What are my options here? I can't really afford the 90 dollars a month as I'm a student with little money to spare. Is the generic finasteride not working or do I need to give it more time? I don't want to risk riding it out for a year or more and only find out that it was useless when I could have been on something else (maybe Proscar??).

Any suggestions or thoughts you may have, I would love to hear 'em. Thanks, and good luck to everyone else on here!

5 months is nothing. It can stimulate in initial shed. It takes a few weeks after starting to go through catagen phase, then another 1-4 months of telogen (rest phase) and then you have to wait until the hair grows long enough in anagen (hair grows slow) to reach a length similar to the rest of your hair before you will notice anything. Even then only half of people get noticeable regrowth, you might just maintain what you have

generics are the same as name brand don't waste your money on propecia

generic is 100% same. If you wish to buy proscar then certainly you can but again it's the same thing. My suggestion would be to try it for an year n see how it goes. Adding minoxidil is worth it. Don't expect much regrowth on finasteride. Then it's upto you
