5 years on finasteride - do I need to change?

Generally during my time on finasteride and minodoxil I have lost 5 hairs in the sink when I wash my hair every 3rd day. I know everyone talks about the replacement ratio being the important thing but I was really happy with that.

I had a shed at 2.5 years (losing about 25 hairs when I wash every third day, plus a few during the day), the same at year 4 and now again at year 5. These last about six months and always begin in about March.

I am hoping that I once again pull out of the other side of my current shed and my loss halts again. Is this likely or have people experienced propecia stopping working after the 5 year mark? I know the studies only went to year 5 and it was a bit of an unknown quantity after that?

Should I jump on dutasteride? My widows peak is massive but after 5.75 years of hairloss still no-one has commented so I'm not in too bad shape I guess. It's still a question of avoiding any major disasters for me.

Apologies for the rambling nature of this post, I often find it hard putting my thoughts down. Thanks

would not count hairs. not an accurate way to assess male pattern baldness. if you notice change in the apearance of your hair.. thinner, more miniaturization, then you may want to think about dutasteride or adding topical spironolactone. . Would not act if uncertain.

Is it likely? that is largely and individual thing. there is no evidencec it stops working. However male patern baldness is progressive. Strong genetic will eventually overpower the meds.
but if it is not broke don't fix it. switching to dutasteride garentees nothing.

many bums who don't wash their hair don't go bald. neither do many drinkers and smokers. washing or not washing your hair won't affect male pattern baldness, but will affect your dating chances more than the male pattern baldness.

You have a lot to gaine by taking dutasteride. But dutasteride has a longer half life and is expensive, and if you buy over seas, you don't know what you are getting. Since one dutasteride per 5 days is as strong as 5mg finasteride per day, i recomend taking 2 dutasteride per week and saving money.

and I would be on spironolactone and minoxidil in front. i can't guarantee that the spironolactone is real, just like i can't guarantee that the overseas drugs are real. If you buy dutasteride overseas, at least take 1/8 US proscar pill every other day so you at least have 0.3mg/day and regrow 85% as much hair as 1mg would regrow.
