Hi guys,

I've been using finasteride and minoxodil for about 6 months now. I haven't noticed any further balding but I'm trying to figure out if minoxodil is worth it. It has been causing some irritation on the scalp (looks worse than it is because I've been rubbing it alot) and I don't know if it looks different. I might just stay on finasteride and get a shorter haircut. What do you think? First two pictures are from 6 months ago, second two are today.

Looks like it may have gotten better - it def hasn't got worse which is a positive alone.

Do you use liquid or foam minoxidil? Liquid uses ethanol/pg as a vehicle which causes irritation for a lot of people (myself included). The foam version doesn't use this and isn't as harsh.

I've been using liquid once a day, I figured it irritated too much from liquid to do it twice a day. I use nizoral maybe once or twice a week. I think a lot of it has to do with my hairstyle, it grows out more on the sides- I think I'd be able to conceal it better if I kept it closer.

I agree it doesn't look like it got worse.

The lighting is darker in the current pics though and that makes a huge difference

Switch to foam for awhile, I think that'll help with your irritation.

What shampoo are you using and are you consistent ? I had the same problem after 5 months on minoxidil and I quit for three months that was a huge mistake ... Now I've been back on and using TGEL eod with no problems .. I didn't feel relief from irritation until after about a month from using TGEL
