6 Month Update

Hi guys,

I haven't been posting on the boards much, but I do check them almost daily for any new insight that may be floating around. I'm approaching the 6 month mark on finasteride (.5mg every other day), and I've been on minoxidil 5% (once daily) for about 5 months. I'm also using Nizoral 1%, Tsal, Tgel, and Vive Thickening for Men.

I am having great results thusfar. I would categorize myself as a NW2, with a bit of overall diffuse thinning. I have been shedding hairs in the shower on a regular basis (between 20-30 hairs sometimes). The majority of the hairs I shed are thin and slightly less pigmented hairs that I believe originate from the frontal section of my hairline as well as the temples. The hairs in the frontal section of my scalp seem to have been attacked a little harder by DHT, seeing as they grow slower and thinner.

I am only using .5mg of finasteride every other day because of side effects. I thought I was having a problem with gyno a couple of months ago, but it seems to have stabilized. I no longer feel the dull tenderness in my breasts (thank god!). My libido is slightly lower than it was before I started finasteride, but I'm hoping it will improve. I have debated whether to stay on finasteride because of watery semen, slightly softer erections, and an overall lowered libido; but, I do believe it's beginning to stabilize. I was quite surprised how my libido was hit even taking .5mg eod.

OK, now to the results. I'm 22, and started to thin a couple of years ago. My hair would get extremely oily and I didn't think anything of it until I was getting comments about my receding hairline. So, I decided to jump into action. I combine TSal with nizoral in the shower 3 times a week, alternating with TGel. My hair is noticibly less oily since starting that regimen. The minoxidil has definitely done work on my hairline as well as the other thinning parts. My hairline is showing signs of curving out, which is friggin sweet. I have gotten numerous comments from family and friends ranging from, "you have hair again!" to "i can't believe how thick your hair is!" to "you're definitely not going bald" <-- from my sister (little does she know
:D ). I am able to style my hair to my liking now, covering up my temples in a sort of faux hawk style, which seems to work.

Since my hair has gotten better, my confidence has sky-rocketed and I have been doing wonderful in the ladies department. Every once in a while I'll have a "bad hair day", but I know it will get better with time. I am hoping to maintain what I have right now for years to come. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll be happy to answer them.

I just want to say that there have been good days and bad days, but it's so important to keep a level head when dealing with male pattern baldness. If you're using the proven treatments, give them time to work. Just knowing that you're doing everything you can do to give yourself a shot at beating male pattern baldness is encouragement enough. But, when it's all said and done, it's just hair (cliche alert!).

First of all, congratulations for the success you had with these treatments.

I would like to see your before and after pics. :)

I also had libido related sides on 0.5mg of finasteride and am now taking 0.25mg a day. I haven't had any sides so far on this dosage but it is too soon to say if it's working.
