Im 25 years old and 7 months into finasteride, almost 3 years on minoxidil. Started finasteride fairly early, i first noticed thinning 2 years prior to starting but nobody else could. My crown has been restored and some help on hairline/overall thickening, nobody can tell i have/had hair loss and im very happy.

I know this question has been asked, but what does the data/stories say in regards to how long finasteride can maintain. At this rate, im imagining i will continue to improve even more from 1-2 years on finasteride, if i could keep my hair like that for years i would be ecstatic. Whats the data say here? Thanks guys

You'll see peak results at 2 years.

They only done a study that lasted 5 years. People have been on it longer and maintained though.

id say you have another 5-6 years of not worrying about your hair. thats the case for my brother. he started at 23 and is now 28 with full nw2. hes still above baseline.

This is of course very hypothetical and a long time from now i would have to consider, but how have people done who had good results from finasteride and moved to dutasteride years after finasteride use when it became less effective?

All i have read on is people who try finasteride and it doesnt really work so they move to dutasteride. I havent seen much on long time finasteride users who move to dutasteride. Thanks guys

Congrats for your success! It changes for everyone, but in general I think if you responded well for 7 months only, you can expect to maintain it for a minumum of 5 years. Let's hope we have a cure for baldness by then. (Please Shiseido 2018!)

I started on finasteride over 7 years ago (I'm 45 now) and it has continued to maintain. Very happy with the results. I had minor sides the first month of starting but that went away quickly..

A mate of mine has been on Propecia 1mg for 8 years and is maintaining a full head of hair as he started on it early (i.e. before any major loss), his brother by contrast did not take Propecia and his hair is done with.

I'm debating getting on Propecia soon as my crown is getting really thin, hairline seems minimally affected so far touch wood.
