Well reading the other posts on here I am not alone when I say that my hair is getting worse by the day.

7 months in and I am losing the battle on my hairline, my crown and the overall density of my hair. Looking back - from months 2-3 my hair thickened up nicely, no regrowth but it did look thicker. It now gets worse by the day looking thinner and whispier. Crown and hairline are getting noticeably screwed daily. Upped my dose to 1mg daily last week as a last ditch attempt to save it. Seriously thinking about the 2.5mg dose now as well.

One thing I have noticed as well is my beard growing in thicker and quicker and my body hair overall has increased within the last few weeks. Libido is up as well.

Does your body produce more DHT to compensate for the dutasteride? Or is my body just reacting more potently to the remaining DHT in my system to cause this?

Thoroughly depressed and annoyed.

Anyone found it better going to 2.5mg??

Ok am 28 years old. Norwood 2.5 - 3. Diffuse thinner as well.

Started Propecia in June 2006 when I was rapidly becoming bald. Had excellent results for 18 months. Added minoxidil in March 2008 as my hair started to decline again, then upped my does of finesteride between March 2006 - June 2006 slowly up to 5mg but it made very little difference.

In June 2008 decided to try dutasteride, avodart at first am now on dr reddys. As I said, hair did get a bit thicker, no regrowth though, and now things looking seriously bad again.

Have upped my dose to 1mg a day for the last week. I will let you know how that goes.

I have heard this theory about too much testosterone in the scalp but I also saw a post on balding blog by Dr rassman saying that this makes no difference to hair loss, only dht does.

Dani - what is this RU stuff? What is it meant to do? I haven't heard of it.

Hey mastery, I have similiar results on proscar. Hair thickened up in a year then went downhill. My facial and body hair is growing faster, maybe our body is just making more dht as we age I suspect.

Hey Mastery,

RU is meant to be a very potent antiandrogen which can be made in a topical format, which does not get absorbed systematically. You may have to make the topical urself though, as only a few places prepare the stuff, watch out for some scam websites- there was one on here last week!

Threee big problems with the RU thogh:

1. Expensive
2. The RU degrades and is unstable, so making large amounts of topical is not advised
3. Shipped from China (faitheagle) and they have a 'batch' system so you have to be ahead in terms of ordering

Bryan has mentioned quite a lot about this and some people are using this in topical format. Ive still never figured out why any company has invested money in this. There is a lot more on this RU58841 in the experimental section, also check out ASJ9 or somthing...

Im waiting for my RU, but its amazing how the Propecia just gave brilliant results to start off with, then tailored off and things went pear shaped.

hey mastery,

I actually hijacked your other thread when you first started dutasteride and I hope you don't mind me hijacking this one too :) .... We have similar stories but I'm 9 months on dutasteride now after being on finasteride for about 2 years.

Here's my 9 month update:
- crown hasn't gotten any better and I'm pretty sure it's getting worse
- hair line has gotten better, however, I contribute that more to me switching back to liquid minoxidil from the foam (i only use minoxidil on my hairline btw). hairline still isn't as good as when I was on finasteride and sadly, I don't think it'll ever get that good again
- overall density is slightly worse than when I was on finasteride
- I still believe that dutasteride is doing something because my hair isn't falling out the way it did before I used any treatments

So at the moment, I'm regretting getting on dutasteride. Yes, I was slowly losing hair on my crown while on finasteride, but dutasteride just progressed things a lot faster... and it also did a number on my hairline which finasteride was doing an awesome job on.

I have about 3 more months left of dutasteride pills... if I don't see any improvements on my crown, then I'll probably switch back to finasteride. All the negative results from dutasteride users on this board makes me wonder about those impressive dutasteride clinical trials.

I think the gutting thing is how good your hair can be on these drugs then just as you start to not worry about your hair the rug gets pulled from under your feet and you are back to square one having saved about 2 years (which in a grand scheme of 80 years plus is not a great deal.

Hairline gets smashed everyday by dutasteride - am now liberally applying the Regaine to try and save it. Seriously considering hair transplant soon as well.

RU sounds dodgy but keep us updated Dani

Does anyone know what Will Young has had done to his hair? Is it a wig? 18 months ago he was going severely downhill.

Also has anyone gone bald from 2.5mg dutasteride dose? I mean that blocks 99% of DHT. Surely 1% of DHT cannot make you go as bald as rapidly as we all seem to on here...
