It is almost 8 months I have been taking dutasteride...no noticeable improvement, V and crown going and continued shedding.

I did start to re-use spironolactone with no luck, but lots of smell.

I have been applying fluridil for three weeks now. First 5 days no loss at all, amazing, thereafter the normal trend has set in.

Im gona stick it out for 1 year, some suggest two, but im a diffuse thinner and it looks v bad now esp near the 'V' and the crown.

I really want to use a proper topical AA. But problem is ive heard Flutamide is not safe and RU is hard to get hold off. I would love to use RU but dont know how to get it. Any ides? I cant access the website.

Hmm were you on finasteride prior to dutasteride? If you were and made the switch to dutasteride to slow things down and its still not working.. it might be that your genetics are winning the battle

Yep, was on finasteride before for about 3 years.

I get the genetic bit, but we can fight this to an extent. If my understanding is correct, the genetics just makes some hairs (depending on your hair loss pattern) less tolerant/more sensitive to DHT over the years- as programmed or just causes more DHT to be made. Hence reducing the amount of DHT circulatng is one way of preventing hair loss induced by the receptor-hormone interaction. The other obivous way is to have somthing competing with DHT for the hair-loss related receptors, or by destroying the receptors altogether (latest technique with some drug called ASJ9 somthing?). We can slow down and inhibit this process the same way other genetic disorders can be controlled to an extent.

Personally, I gained back a huge amount with finasteride and minoxidil to start off but then tailored off over the three years, very similar to the results that are shown in the famous Propecia study I think. Part of the reason why I am looking for a topical inhibitor is so that a lot more of the scalp DHT-receptor interaction is reduced, and less side effects (known and unkown)from systematic absorption.

RU looks very promising, but is bloody hard to get hold off and if you manage to get that far...then its authenticity and integrity needs to be checked. Finally you need to make this into an applicable format, which I also need to find out.

Hmm seems like you have your bases covered. But the main problem with most topicals is the absorption thingy. Heck, even minoxidil, the grand daddy of all topicals, doesn't work thaaat awesome for most dudes. My personal take on the male pattern baldness war is still internal>topicals. And maybe i missed that bit out, but are you currently on minoxidil? Anyway, not that i have any suggestions to give based on this bit of info, but how old are you? Was hoping i could at least maintain for 5-7 years more.. hopefully by then i'll have enough dough for a hair transplant.

Hey no probs. Im 30 and have been on minoxidil for nearly 4 years....

Internals are great in terms of hassle, the problems however are side effect-related due to systematic absorption. Bryan and the other well knowledged people on here have always spoken in depth about systematic absorption vs. local effects etc. There are many new products which claim sun, moon and god, but a lot of them havent been tested properly or have made assumptions which cannot be proven in their respective studies.

Im actually very scared of undergoing a hair transplant.

I'm on dutasteride and struggling like you - I currently am 5 1/2 months in.

Quick question - is your hair that remains thicker than when you started? I have continued to lose hair all over, especially in the problem areas (crown and hairline) but I think the hairs that are still there are slightly thicker than before I started.

My last ounce of hope is that there is clearly less dht in my follicles and that surely some will regrow at some point.

Also have you seen the testimonials on the medical wellness centre website? There are about 500 positive testimonials about dutasteride and about 10 negative. Again giving me slight hope...

Hi,

The positive responses on the Wellness centre thing- YES. I read those fifty times before decided to go on dutasteride. Problem is, although those comments encouraged me to make the transition from finasteride to dutasteride, those statements cannot be regarded as any form of insurance or gaurantee that it will work for you and I. Its the same on these forums. I live in hope at times that my response might be likened to that of Slarti's or H/B, both of them responded a bit late (past the 6 month mark), although slartis response came at around 1.5 years, however its the same scenario - its not scientific, its not the norm so to speak. Everyone is different.

I am a diffuse thinner with more loss concentrated at the crown and hairline areas. Its hard to tell if some hairs have thickened up as the scalp is more visible than before. Some hairs have gone much weaker though for sure.

Like I said before, I will give it 1 year.

I am, however, trying to make sense of it all. I am drifting towards a potent topical AA, which may be assist in combating the remaining DHT or the resultant extra testosterone from dutasteride intake. I will probably use RU, if somone can guide me on how to obtain and prepare it.

I just started on my 4th month on Avodart. Hair hasn't changed a bit since I started. I haven't seen any advantage/disadvantage to my hairline or crown...I'm on my 3rd month of rogaine foam. I've been loosing less hairs...haven't had to unclog my shower drain since I started on Avodart which is nice. I'm just in a holding pattern right now.

Why does it take a year for the drug to kick in? many people say to stay on it for a year or more...why the long wait? I never fully understood that.

Those Medical Wellness testomonials seem like they were all written by one person paid to make it look like Avodart is a miracle drug. Write 100 good ones and maybe 3 bad ones.
I really find it hard to believe that site.
