A question to those with great success...

Do you use generic finasteride or Merck brand. I'm beginning to notice that those who boast of the greatest success in regrowing hair use brand name Merck Propeica - not Proscar, not fincar, but 1mg Merck Propecia. I've been on generic Proscar for about 7 months and haven't had noticeable results, but now I need to buy more. I'm wondering if I should switch to brand-name. So if you've had success, please let us know what you've been using.

If i was you, i'll go for propecia 1mg. crushing pills, skipping days, etc, isn't the route i would go or recommend. hair loss is a depressing situation. don't risk yourself. the original study, the one that got propecia approved, is 1 mg, aka propecia. this is just my opinion.

I would have to consider myself a success story and I use Proscar, which I cut into fifths with a pillcutter....

I was on Propecia for about 1 year (started April 2001).

Upon the recommendation of my dermatologist (April 2002),I switched over to Proscar and he recommended I also add 5% Minoxidil.

I have switched off and on from generic minoxidil and Rogaine. I use this 2 x a day.

Maybe a year; year and a half later, I learned about Nizoral 1% from this site. I have also added Green tea, a multivitamin and MSM, lately.

In answer to your question, I have only used Propecia and Proscar (cut into 5ths). I still have a fivehead, instead of a forehead, BUT my hairloss has definitley slowed and I think my hair looks much better now , than I did 4 years ago.

I think the MinFinNiz cocktail has DEFINITELY worked.

Oh, I also use Couvre for good measure.

To say that you would get better results with Merck propecia instead of generic, would be to imply either that Merck puts in some extra goodies in theirs (it doesn't), or that the generic companies somehow stiff you. Now despite the obvious saving that these companies could make if they did stiff you, if it ever got out that this was the case they'd be in bigtime sh*t both commercially and legally. Their reputations are too important to them to ruin for the sake of a few extra bucks.
Finasteride is finasteride no matter what colour packet it comes in.

I use Proscar and cut into 4. I can say that it has worked. I would be in a much worse situation now if I had not have started it.

I did experiement a bit in how I take the dose. I find that the best thing is to cut one tablet at a time into 4, place the segements into a pill box and just use them up. Then repeat.

I'm not sure really. I just felt that the month or so I was doing this my hair kinda went to crap. I suppose I got cocky and started to treat finasteride just like any other tablet.

Now I just do as I said above. Much better and more manageable.

It's just my observation about biting it. I think you just get better results when you cut evenly into 4.

bitting it gets moisture on the pill maybe? thus melting away some of the chemicals? and since moisture travels through the pill it might ruin the whole pill.
