A week on finasteride

I've been taking 0.5mg of finasteride daily for a week now. Everything is fine except my chest feels very tight, to the point where i am aware of my chest (as in feel it) I can't help but feel i'm getting gynecomastia.

I am also on Omeprazole Gastro Resistant Capsules (20mg) for too much stomach acid. A very rare side effect of this is also gynecomastia.

Is this possible so soon?

I too have acidity problems caused by GERD and take nexium sometime. Its been 2 months on finpecia for me. No side effects so far but went through a massive shed for the whole of 2nd month. Very depressing. Last week or so I shed few hairs but absolutely no signs of regrowth.

My chest now feels very tender, especially my left chest muscle. Is there a possibilty this is Gyno already? Been on finasteride 8 days now, on 0.5 mg.

:(

I'm not sure whats going on but my chest is definitely very tender. It was made worse after i drank on the weekend, my whole body felt in slight pain at the joints. My muscle is going soft, is this a side effect?

Everything else is fine though. Where would you go from here?

obv it takes much longer than a week to develop gyno.

BUT, these are the first warning signs, tightness, itchiness, tenderness, etc, of the breast area, and if you continue your current meds you are likely to develop gyno.

maybe finasteride and omeprazole is having too much of an effect on your body.

are there alternatives to omeprazole?

i'd give finasteride up for a week, find something different to omeprazole, then start finasteride again and monitor things closely.

Could you pinpoint the pain you are experiencing? Describe the quality... is it constant or is it transitory? Is it general across your entire chest or is it localized in and around your areola and nipple? Have you worked out recently? How old are you?

In other words, rule out other causes. A pulled muscle, stable or unstable angina, a cracked rib, etc. Is there a history of cardiovascular disease or stroke in anyone under the age of 55 in your family? Can you SEE a difference in your breast tissue? Is it asymmetric with respect to the other side?

It's only a tenderness in the breast area of my chest. I can feel my breasts/chest to the point where i am aware of them, if this makes sense? As if they are a seperate part of my torso and i can feel them all the time, quite tense? No itching or anything like that though. It tends to be in my right side, however i sit at a desk where i am on an angle so my right side of my chest is constantly being flexed when i type on the computer.

Do you guys think it is the finasteride/Omeprazole combo? As Gyno is very very rare i hear? I am not sure if there is any alterernative to Omeprazole but i will be off it within two weeks when the medication ends.

I thought about coming off finasteride for a week but i'm not sure if this is a good idea as it would mess everything up?

Other than this, i'm not experiencing any other side effects.

Are you SURE this is not just in your head? When I first started finasteride I was really worried about sides and my whole body felt tingly. I'm sure this was just an adrenaline rush from scaring myself shitless about side effects. You should research gyno/finasteride more and see if others who actually got gyno experieneced this "chest tightness" you describe. My feeling is it would be odd to notice onset so quickly.

At the end of the day it is a real doctor you should be talking to about this, preferably one with experience with gyno and/or finasteride.

Agreed.

Haha when I took the pill for the first time today I almost passed out bc I was so nervous. :puke:
I thought I was nauseous for an entire hour or so after I took the pill. Stupid nervousness... I swear I'm neurotic sometimes.

I mean..uh... I wasn't worried and I definitely would NEVER :jackit: just to make sure everything was still functional :$

I'm pleased to report that all tenderness/tightness in my chest has now subsided :punk:
And my chest looks exactly the same as it did before treatment.

I am now experiencing no side effects whatsoever and my muscles have also subsided to feel soft and tender.

I plan on upping my dose from 0.5mg too 1mg when I hit the 1 month mark next week.

I havn't noticed any results yet but it's only been about three weeks.

I thought i'd share this as it's encouraging to others. :)

Thanks, hopefully my sides go away with time as well. :punk:

If not, I wish you lots of luck.

I know I'm replying to an old thread, but my current experience is uncannily similar - - also on prilosec and just started finasteride (~20 days ago). Think I might be developing gynecomastia, esp. w/ my left breast, but hoping that I'm just paranoid at the moment. Is 3 weeks too quick to notice any signs?

I swear that this is a) an unnatural feeling and b) different than my right breast....
