Hey Guys, I just got the prescription for 1mg finasteride from my doctor. I am a little hesitant to start and have not gone to the pharmacy yet. I am 23 years old and am currently a diffuse thinner. I was just wondering what to expect on finasteride. I have done some searching and a lot of people are saying there will be a shed. Is this always the case? My hair is already thin so a large shed would scare me. Another concern I have is the long term use of finasteride on fertility. Is it possible to still conceive while on finasteride? I know it can affect parameters of semen which are reversible once you stop use. I was just wondering if long term use would still be reversible. I know I might just be little paranoid, but I just wanted to know everything before I committed to using the drug.

If you want to know EVERYTHING than you should do your own research and not just ask for advice on forums. But I am also a diffuse thinner in my early 20's. Started taking finasteride for 9 months and have continued to lose ground. I have experienced basically no side effects which is good. Still have a solid sex drive, not problems with ED or gynocomastia. Early on I had slight ball ache but that went away quickly.

My advice to you is not to worry about ED. I think the majority of people suffering from ED under propecia experience it due to psychological factors.

All the best.

I been doing my research and reading articles. I was just looking for advice and insight. When do you think finasteride will usually work. I heard sometimes at six month mark and other times to wait a year to ascess

finasteride is one of those things that as regards side effects and benefits, you really don't know until you try.

One common cycle for this dilemma seems to be as follows:

  1. Discover finasteride.
  2. Agonise over possible side effects for a year before actually starting it.
  3. Get depressed about how crap your hair is looking and so start taking it.
  4. Have zero side effects and wish you had started it a year ago.

Not to say that you will or will not have side effects, it's just the above seems to be the common cycle of dilemma from people on the forums.

As for myself: age 34 with diffuse loss all over top but mainly at the crown. I agonised over taking it for about 7 months due to the negativity plastered all over the internet, lost some ground in those 7 months, stated taking it in December 2015, been on it now for exactly 6 months, zero side effects (touch wood) but also zero benefits for my hair as yet. Hoping for some slight "thickening" if possible but that may take some time...
