So Ive been shedding diffusely ever since stopping Accutane ten months ago. It has slowed down after 6 months to about 50 hairs a day from the 100 hair it first was. I just started propecia. Well actually finpecia. Im taking .25 mg a day. Im probally gonna do that for a month and than take .33 a day for the 2nd month. After that ill up the does to .5 mg a day and that's the highest ill go. I shed a lot on top. But I still shed on sides and back of my head, but not nearly as much on top. I really hope some of you veterans can help with this question. Is shedding a few hairs on sides and back normal? After ten months of doctors telling me this will naturally stop Ive finally realized its BS. Im gonna give finpecia a year. If it doesn't work Im gonna shave the head, tan and hit the gym. In a weird way I feel like losing my hair and shaving it will liberate me. But of course we all want out hair and youth. Im only 21 Im pretty depressed and sad to see my hair going. The irony is I still have the hair line of a 13 year old. Any insight of this will be greatly appreciated. Oh and one more thing. Since taking the finpecia the past few days I feel a minor ache in my balls. Very minor and I Know its normal. But when I drink grean tea with it, it really amplifies the pain. Ill keep you guys updated.

What tells you that your hair loss is related to Accutane? If it is, what would be the mechanism? I doubt it would involve DHT. Finasteride inhibits DHT, so I am not sure how that would help. How old are you? Maybe it's just male pattern baldness kicking in, and it has nothing to do with Accutane.
Well you tell me what this is. I'm 21. Was on accutane for 3 months and all of a sudden I was shedding 150 hairs a day . From all over back , sides and top. Literally everywhere. It's slowed down to like 50 a day after 10 months but now I see it is more concentrated in my crown but still shed a bit on sides and back. My hair line is the same from when I was 13. My dad is 55 and completely bald on top. Personally I think the accutane hair loss is wearing off because the sides and back have calmed down and texture of my hair is almost normal again from how dry it was after accutane. But I also think it triggered my male pattern baldness alot sooner than it would have. As for the connection between accutane and hair loss this is a well known fact. I'm not the only one stating this it is all over this forum and the Internet.

Yes of course. However I believe I was predisposed to male pattern baldness and Telogen Effluvium from accutane started my genetic hair loss sooner. Hence why I am taking finpecia now to see if it will combat the dht and halt hair loss. Again im looking for help from members who had hair loss due to accutane or members who had male pattern baldness and shed on sides burns as well and halted it with finasteride
Just an update. I have been on finasteride for about 1 month now. I am still seeing the same amount of hairs lost in the shower. However I have also started to see more thin/light hairs shed. Does any know what this means? Also My hair in general feels alot stronger when I tug on it. Im not sure if this is just in my head. One thing I feel I must also note is that, the wonders its done for my acne. I took Accutane for 3 months, finished it 11 months ago and hair started shedding like crazy. A bit later my acne came back but very slightly. Id have a few zits here and there every week. When I started the finasteride I broke out the first weak and I have been virtually clear ever since.
