Acne and Hair Loss

've had acne for the past 2 years (beginning at 18) and never had any problems with it before then. Coincidentally this also the time where I began to notice some hair loss. I also do get an itchy scalp and scalp pimples/red marks; my derm said I probably have SD. What I have noticed is when my acne is at its worst, it's also when my hair loss is at its worst. I've tried all types of topicals, including some powerful retanoids, but this acne just will not go away 100%. My derm said if this continues I'll probably have to take an oral antibiotic, most likely minocycline or doxycycline. I was wondering if the acne and the hair loss have any connection so I did some research and some people say they noticed some regrowth while on this antibiotic while others say they lost even more hair from it. What do you guys think about all this and if there is any connection between acne and hair loss? Is it safe to take minocycline or doxycycline?

Minocycline may have had a part in kickstarting my Chronic Telogen Effluvium, although I'm not sure. Tread carefully.

Did you try some topical antibiotic. It actually helped with my acne when I was 18. I actually had quite a bit of acne when I was 17 and 18 but it actually was already much less dramatic when I was 19 and only some scars remained when I was 20. Now, I there is no sign of it any longer. I do not have a pure skin but my skin looks pretty nice.

I've tried things like benzoyl peroxide, tazorac (a retanoid), sulfacetamide sodium (Avar), azelaic acid (Finacea). Some worked better than others and some were incredibly drying, but at the moment I'm just using tazorac with the occasional spot treatment of BP. Funnily enough some people report hair loss while on tazorac, wonder if that has anything to do with my hair loss.
