Adding 2% Minoxidil Instead Of 5%? (been On Finasteride For 8 Months Still Thinning)

I'm 19 turning 20 in march. I've been on finasteride for about 8 months now, give or take. My hairline did end up improving and hair became thicker but the hairline has started to move back slowly again- the hair on the left side of my hairline are very thin compared to the right, i can see my scalp under the light. Now i don't want to move to duasteride or anything as the side effects of finasteride are enough. So i was wondering should i add 2% minoxidil to the area. The reason i don't want to add 5% right now and teh reason ive been scared to start it, is because ive heard minoxidils efficacy is like 5 years. I really want to use it long term, so i was wondering if i started with 2% then slowly and later down line i can up it to 5%. Is this a good idea?? or should i go straight to 5%. Also the 2% is sold for women so lol, i will prob have to buy that :s. The realisation i've come to is that, finasteride isn't going to hold my hairline perfectly forever, and even if i just apply bit of minoxidil to the thin area, i might be able to save the hairline a bit longer. If i don't use minoxidil the hair follicles will miniaturise and then it's pointless. I'm also scared with minoxidil that the hair follicles might become dependent, so even if i dont drop finasteride but end up dropping minoxidil down the line then i'd lose more hair than i gained with minoxidil. Furthermore i've heard nizoral has similar effect to 2% minoxidil but i've read forum it can destroy your hairline, hence i didn't really start it. As you guys can tell i'm most concerned about my hairline. Sorry for rambling on for too long - it's just there isn't really anyone that can understand my stress about this - everybody thinks it's not a big deal - but i'm just 19 and the hairloss is really aggressive and it affects my self confidence and puts me in a depressed state everyday :(. Also i was thinking of just adding it once a day, so i mean adding 5% once a day would it be same as applying 2%. I don't want to apply twice for same reason discussed above. Any advice whatsoever would be appreciated thanks alot.

I'm not sure about the 5 year efficacy. Can you link the source?
It might be true for minoxidil alone studies that the hair density goes below baseline after 5 years, but that's because the DHT continues to destroy the follicles eventually catching up with the initial boost/offset made by minoxidil.

Hi,
Get on the standard 5% Minoxidil. Consider what it actually is: 1ml of solution twice a day. It's easy. Even if there is a limited life on its use (I've never heard of a prospective study done for that over that length of time) it's likely to still at least buy you time when its usefulness fades for years after. Use it today and don't stop.
