Adding hair yourself to an existing piece

Is there some tool used to vent hair? I have a piece with a spot no bigger than a dime that needs about 20 more hairs. It is really no big deal, but if it can be done I would like to try it.

Lord knows I have enough hair from other pieces I can use.

Yes, it's called a ventilating hook or needle. It looks like this. You can buy them on Amazon.

If you search "ventilating lace" on YouTube you will get a few videos showing you the technique. There are various different knots and methods, but if you only want to add a few hairs you probably don't need to worry about that.

Thanks Noah. Just curious, have you ever tried doing this?
I am sure there is a youtube video on how to use this.

I think you'd be better off filling in any blemishes on your system with hair loss concealers, i.e. hair fibres or hair loss concealer powder. You can do this easily and cheaply, and it works fine. I seems like a LOT of hassle to have to add more hairs yourself.

No, I've never tried it TEG. I did once get a hair-add from a salon when I had a fairly new unit that developed a baldspot, and that was cheap and effective.

There is one active poster that has tried a few years back.

If he sees your post he may answer :)

I have heard this being done many times. I never reverted to concealers, but I did buy some just out of curiosity as to why this is so popular. I am sure I still have it around here...somewhere

Speaking of concealers...is that what Rudy Giuliani was using that was dripping down in the video? Someone on here must have seen that besides myself. It is being labeled as hair dye, but I never heard any dye that does that...unless he was dying his hair before the filming of whatever he was discussing and was rushed out? But then, I don't think he would dye his hair himself if he does dye his hair.

weird

It is causing quite a laugh amongst us in the NY area

No, hair loss concealers aren't hair dye (although they can be used to conceal slightly greying hair if used creatively....but they're not dye). If you use concealers or hair dyes right, you don't have to worry about something like Rudy Giuliani's faux pas happening to you. My guess is that he used some sort of brush in or spray in temporary dye before his speech, or he used a normal dye but forgot to rinse out the excess from his hair.

I bought one and some gray hair to try to take a solid unit to 5%, but haven’t got around to it. The tool was inexpensive, but the ventilation hair was very expensive. Instead of buying ventilating hair, I’d recommend searching online for inexpensive women’s extensions of the same color and using the hair from it.

I tried this once. I was wearing a low density Swiss lace unit, and the fibres stuck to the perimeter tape and discoloured it - which could then be seen through the hair.

Sending back to vendor is not feasible for me as I ordered from USA and I live in Europe.

Ventilation on poly involves many steps, very informative video here.

I never tried, but once I had a bald spot on poly... ended up taking a nickle size section from leftover from cuttings, and glued it to base which i previously shaved ..used crazy glue and it did the job until my replacement piece came in

Just put fiber to a bald spot and it made the lace more visible lol. But before it looked exactly like scalp. Now atleast it shouldn't bring attention, but if someone comes close they see the lace. Med brown fiber made the whole area exactly like my hair color, but the light lace is now visible. So it means it fell below the lace. Maybe I should put more fiber to try to cover the lace? It probably doesn't stay on it. Maybe would make the problem even worse.

Well, it doesn't actually look that difficult at all. I'm thinking that if I order that ventilating needle, a bunch of hair of my colour and then I just perforate a hole, pass a hair through that and so on until I cover a balding spot and then I paint the underside with a polyurethane glue. What do you think?

Looks really time consuming i don't think I realised how long it must take to make a piece.

I've often thought about adding my own hair to a piece but it just seems to much hassle lol.

If you can order all the right supplies, go for it! But may not be cost effective
