Advice for a newbie?

Hey guys, I'm 21 and have noticed a bit of receeding (About 1cm) and thinning at my temples (The right especially, going up about an inch above the height of my hair in the centre) since I was 17. I put it down to a 'maturation' of the hairline, not a lot of male pattern baldness in my family and two doctors told me the same at the time.

Now at 21, it hasn't changed that much but the thinning has spread a bit (Though the centre hair is the same thickness and height as it's always been) but went to see a doctor who told me it's the early stages of male pattern baldness (Well he didn't actually say in so many words, but I'm sure that's what he was getting at).

On a brighter note, he was confident in saying from looking at the little change from 17-21 (Some of my friends have lost all their hair at the front in this period), and looking at my hair in general that it'd be 5 years or so before I noticed any sort of change, maybe even when I'm 30 (At the moment it doesn't look too bad, I can still spike it up at the front and it looks almost straight and the thinning is covered due to the way it grows, and un geled it's not really noticeable at all) And when I'm 30 I wouldn't care and just shave it off anyway, and I'm not losing any more strands of hair now when I wash it than I did previously I don't think.

So I'm not looking for any sort of re growth (Though of course it would be nice, I'm not keen on starting on propecia/minoxidle etc. not sure I can afford to anyway).

Is there anything I can do to slow it down further, maybe buy me a few extra years? I was thinking along the lines of vitamin supplements (Saw Palmetto Berry extract, if so what strength, dosage etc.?)

I was also thinking of getting on a shampoo which claims to slow hairloss (Has anyone tried this? It's sold by repuatable pharmacist Boots if that adds to its credibility? http://www.activhaircare.co.uk)

So given my situation, is there anything anyone can reccomend in terms of a shampoo/supplements/treatment which isn't too expensive but has worked for others? (I'm in the UK btw, may limit my options)

Thanks in advance.

Rob.

Here's what I'm recommemding to newbies now ...

try finasteride/dutasteride, minoxidil and nizoral. When those don't work for you, or they lose effectiveness after 5 years, or you get side effects, then try alternative treatments like caffeine, lemon juice, camel piss (lol) etc.. And when those still don't stop your hair loss try LLLT.

Just an update, I'm planning on taking the following

-Saw Palmetto Berry Extract (Already have)
-Apple Cider vinegar capsules
-Multi vitamins.

-DS Labs Revita Shampoo (Contains the active ingredient in Nizoral)

-And also Spectral DNC. Does anyone use this? It seems reasonably priced and contains 5% minoxidal as well as other ingredients.

So I have 3 questions really

1) What do you think of the regime in general? Ok to start out with for mild very gradual hair loss?
2) Does Minoxidal work on the temples?
3) Will it cause shredding? Reason I ask is at the moment my thinning isn't noticeable, but if all the thinning hair shed it would be! Are there any other side affects?

Thanks.

If you can afford this you can afford generic finasteride. You say your main goal is to maintain, not to regrow. Maintain is what finasteride does best.

2. It works on the temples
3. It causes shedding

Get some generic finasteride from united or inhouse.
I have been taking Finpecia with good results

Sorry to ask lots of questions guys but as you hopefully understand I have concerns.

1) Side affects?
2 )Do you shed, making your hair look worse than it would have naturally detiorated? Temporarily of course.
3) Good for the temple hairline? And hairline in general?
4) If I stopped taking it, would I only lose the hair it helped me keep/regrew? Or would it make all my hair more susecptable to male pattern baldness?/Make hair I would have kept anyway dependant on propecia
5) Should I see a doctor first before taking it? (I have no health problems, general GPs here don't seem too keen on the drugs though) Or just buy it and take it?
6) 1 mg, right?

Again sorry with all the questions, but I'd be grateful to anyone who can advise me.

You need to spend a lot more time reading and less time on forums if you still have such questions.

read

http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com

and not

http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/interact/

I have already read a lot about the products to be fair, I just wanted the opinion of those those who've used the products to put my mind at ease and get a jist of how common the benefits/side affects are in people (I find it easier to hear it first hand than read a statistic for some reason) :$

Also some of my questions were quite specific, which reading around I haven't found the answers addressed in general articles on propecia.

I know I'm sounding like a scared little girl, but this is all new to me. :dunno:

If you use the search function you will find your questions answered many times over if you want to go forward without waiting for a reply but considering how many questions you asked.........
