Quick question... Apologies if it is a really stupid question but I was never great at biology... As I'm losing most of my hair at the temples, this is where the DHT problem is strongest right? So why does propecia only stop the DHT at center of head and not DHT at temple areas?

Also, if I have significat negative DHT action going on at my temples, will minoxidil be a sufficiant "stimulant" ?

Argh a little confused now.

I guess the DHT problem is greatest at the temples and hairline, so it's harder for propecia to get a hold of.

minoxidil is useful for all areas of the head - a lot of ppl use it on the temples and hairline while taking propecia to get maximum benefit.

you dont have to say anything- get Dr Lees xandrox is youd like. it dries in 5 minutes...you could put it on way before your girl comes over and she would never know. in fact, it makes ur hairline look thicker once it dries. trust me, its not a big hassle at all. and if she ever does ask...just tell her its conditioner u put in your hair before sleep

Right. I checked his website and it seems a lot of hassle to get it shipped over from america (and it says on their site postage may be slow as they are understaffed).

I have found a decent offer on ebay which offers me 2% minoxidil (rogaine for men) - 3 months worth for £30 including p+p to UK.

Can this 2% solution be applied just as easily/undetectable as dr lee's?

From what i gathered rogaine works for regrowth for about 3 years, and then you have to carry on using it to simply maintain what you have after that point... Right?

It contains Three 60 ml - 2 fl oz - Bottles of Mens Rogaine Regular Strength + applicator. Should i go for it?

Since I only have slight temple recession/thinning (but which is getting worse), would minoxidil (i'm thinking xandrox15 as it looks the best) at this quite EARLY stage be overkill? I don't mind applying this twice a day every day if it means i'll keep my hair - but what if xandrox15 for some reason suddenly is discountinued or what not? Is there any chance of xandrox15 making hair WORSE?

Thanks everybody, you guys have been fantastic.

Reason I'm going minoxidil route instead of propecia is:
1. Propecia has some side effects I'm not willing to risk at the age of 20
2. My recession is mostly in temple areas, propecia may not work very well for me as it's provided most success in crown/vertex area.

Dr Lee even advises people who have advanced hair loss not to start with Xandrox 15. For your situation Maroon, start with either regular 5% minoxidil or 5% Xandrox. Apply it twice a day for at least 6 months and re-evaluate the situation then. You sound like you are at the very early stages so you have plenty of time. There's every chance with this simple routine you will be able to maintain the hair you have, at least for a few years. Keep a eye on things, but don't try to obesess about it and let it get you down. If in a few years time you think you are losing ground, then you can look at some of the other treatments. I think you're gonna be fine bro.

Thanks man. I tried taking some photos with my mobile to show you how it actually is, but for some reason it won't let me bluetooth them over to PC :(

It's the regular temple recession seen in many blonde/scandinavian people. I go for long periods without it bothering me, but it DOES get me down at times. It's something that just looms/hangs over you. I'm sure you know what I mean. Hard to judge but I'm guessing norwood 1.5~2 at the moment.

Could you please describe to me the procedure of applying/using this kirkland solution in terms of practicality and special steps I would have to take to make sure I keep the routine?

I.e. Could I shower in the morning... Dry my hair using a towel as i usually do.. Apply the solution.. let it settle for 5 mins - and then style my hair as usual?

And at night.. shower... apply solution.. settle for 5 mins and then go to bed?

It's bound to get you down; it gets us all down. The trick is not to let it take over your life. How you do that is another matter! Every one has to find their own way. For myself, I'm trying to concentrate on getting myself fit. And I can honestly say that starting to lose my hair has not affected my success with women at all - I still get the ugly one :)

Yep, that routine is fine. It is only necessary to put a thin layer on the areas you wish to treat, and you don't have to cover every single bit of scalp as it does spread underneath the scalp once it's absorbed. What's important is that you apply it directly to the scalp (rather than hair). Your hair doesn't need to to completely dry, just not so wet that you dilute the minoxidil. Plus, try not to let it roll off your scalp.

I assume its pretty much invisible once applied? Since I can apply and then style it a little later? I'm gonna order minoxidil AND nizoral tonight.

Cheers,

Update...

I've ordered my temple-saviour regiment:

1 Minoxidil 5%, 4 Month Supply (4 60mL Bottles) £19.99
1 Nizoral (Ketoconazole) 1% Shampoo, 200mL Bottle £15.00

Total Amount £34.99 GBP

Just to let you know what's going on :)

I am hopeful as I am catching it quite early. The part of my temples that I wouldn't mind growing back even still has hairs there... They are just very small & blonde.

I'll make sure to keep you updated.

Will also try to get some reference pictures taken (as much for my own sake) - if I do i'll post them here too.

dude -

I would not start Monix yet. You are going to have to use it for the rest of your life and it seems like you still have a full head of hair!! I would wait it out, anything you start know you are going to have to take for the rest of your life.

It's true that it is easier to save hair then grow it back, but until it really starts to be noticeable I would hold off.

I have been on Propecia for about 8 years now. Works great, no sides, pumpin sex life, hair is holding on. The only probelm is you get sick of putting a pill in your system for 8 years, and as long as I want my hair I need to keep taking the pill. I would wait before you start.

Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm. This made me think for a bit.

It's obviously receding slowly but steadily. If I start now it will be better than playing the growing-back game? Could my temples suddenly stop receding or are they likely to carry on if I don't take any medication? If i could keep exactly what I've got now I'd be very happy, but I don't want them to recede even more. Damn.

I'm guessing the stuff will arrive tomorrow or monday.

Good man. You can get 100ml 1% Nizoral shampoo from Boots for a fiver though if you want to save money. It's called Nizorelle, which always makes me feel very metro when I buy it.

You'll probably kep what got... but you may not. Remember, the temple area has always been a shady subject when speaking of hair loss. Nothing out there says it " works" for the temple area. Most remedies say it is for the crown and hairline.

Obviuosly it has been proven that things do work for the temple area by people on this board. As I said you will probably keep what you got if you start but your making a life long commitment. My feelings are that it is a little early in your life to make that commitment.

Good Luck
