Alcohol Effects Reduced W Finasteride, Anyone Else?

Been on finasteride for about 7 months. I don't think I have had any sides except maybe tiny decrease is libido (maybe).

One thing I have noticed is that alcohol isn't as much fun for me anymore, like at all. I dont get that "buzzed" euphoric feeling after a few drinks anymore. I have to drink a lot to "feel it" and even then I basically just lose cordination. I quit drinking for 6 weeks to reset my tolerance to see if that was it but, same thing.

Anyone else notice this? Kinda freaks me out...

Part of the enjoyment of alcohol, music, and pretty much a lot of things in life, stems directly from our youthful hormones. When those are inhibited, things can be dampened. It totally depends on your personal physiology. You know your body better than anyone else.

Apparently it can...there are some studies out there which support it and I have my own anecdotal evidence.

True, but I am 27, I honestly very much doubt my physiology has changed much in the last 7 months apart from what finasteride has done.

Drinking Pre-finasteride and post-finasteride is night and day, I don't even really drink anymore because I cant enjoy it

Yes! I had the exact thing happen to me. I beleive i'm back to normal with that.either that or I just enjoy it in a different way...

You are correct sir..i'm just Glad someone else has experienced this besides me. I guess it's better than getting e.d. for a side..my libido has been lowered but I am 41and going thru a divorce soooo. I do beleive it affects the way alcohol affects you..it's more of a numbing effect vs. well whatever it was before..I still drink every night so the brain must enjoy some part of it still

Oh I misunderstood. Well hair vs alcohol is hardly a difficult choice, but it really makes me wonder what else finasteride is effecting.

I have been pretty down in the dumps since starting finasteride, also getting frequent headaches and a dry throat constantly. Starting to think it could be related.

You guys think I should take a 2 week break from finasteride and see what happens? Will 2 weeks nuke my hairline?

Exactly, I just get the numbing effect..took me a few weeks to realize it cut out the booze completely

That's your choice..i'm a drinker..if you ask my soon to be exwife i'm an alcoholic. I moved to something a little stouter than beer.. which was my favorite..it took me a little over a year to truly enjoy alcohol again..but if your not drinking anymore atleast you'll save some money haha..and on top of that I didn't see results until over a year into finasteride. Oh well..jack with your hormones you get what you get and don't throw a fit...good luck on finasteride I would not give it up finasteride or alcohol

"In this study, we also examined the effects of finasteride, a 5AR inhibitor, on the subjective response to a moderate dose of alcohol in social drinkers. As hypothesized, finasteride reduced a number of the self-reported stimulant effects of alcohol"

Well, that sucks. That has me pretty worried. If its interaction with allopregnanolone is causing that...what else could it be affecting?

Right when I am finally starting to see results too =/.

I may take a break from finasteride to see how that affects me. Any advice on how long of a break I should take? Will it reverse my results/gains in the last 7 months?

BTW I am considering taking a break for fins impact on mood/anxiety/depression, not because of alcohol

this is part of the main reason why i dont take finasteride on weekends, I'm not a big drinker though, maybe once a month or twice a month ill get shitfaced but besides that i really dont drink much. But try taking a dose thursday morning and then drinking saturday night, i think the 2 days will have an effect on your alcohol buzz, i cant say it does for me cause i never get drunk the same day i took finasteride, but i have yet to notice a "numbing" effect, im always over the top when im drunk

Even before finasteride I used to get this cold feeling in my groin and gooch area now that Im on dutasteride its worse and get it even when Im not drinking. Weed everything seems the same.

Yea thats true alcohol effect changes in my body as well when i am on finasteride and i fancy drinking less,i dont know why some people think every thing is just in our head just because they dont experience it
