I'm scheduled for my procedure coming up (hairline only- about 800 grafts), but I can only take off 5 days from work afterwards. I'm aware that the scabbing should be pretty much done by then, but since I'm not out in the open about the procedure, anybody have any suggestions for a reason I can tell people when they comment about possible redness, etc., remaining around the hairline?

dude my swelling didnt go away for 5 days and i still have scabs 3 weeks almost 4 this coming monday. It will probably be not as much scabbing for you with 800 graphs but you wont even start to see the scabs until around that time.

Hi Oli,

Hey, welcome to this forum! Try to take at least 8 days away from work including the weekends. The crusts are not ready to come off until then. The potential swelling if you get it usually comes at 3 days post op and can linger for another 3 days. The redness can vary but for most it dissipates in a week on average.

If there is no way you can get away that long, then I really doubt that anyone will say anything to you "if you act normal". If anyone should ask, simply tell them the truth that you have been outside in sunlight. They do not have to know that you had a hair transplant.

Let us know how things go man! :)

Thanks for being so honest and transparent with sharing your own situation jeffsss. :D

For alot of patients this is an extremely emotional dilemma and are very sensitive to their privacy.

thanks for the info, guys. I've got some Couvre that I've been using for over a year now w/ success to blend in some hairline areas that are thin around the temples. Got thick hair everywhere else. I hope to be able to use the Couvre after the first week post transplant to blend in any remaining redness, etc. Seems like most people's work is relatively undetectable after day 9/10 or so...I'm getting mine done in Washington DC w/ plastic surgeon Dr. Yousefi. I've spoken to some of his former patients who were most impressed with his work, though I haven't heard his name mentioned here. If anybody has had work done by him, please chime in...I'll let everyone know how it goes (procedure scheduled for 1st of March)

Well that's cool jeffsss, and I can see how that works for you and some others. The people closest to me all know I had three hair transplants but all I ever received were compliments, with one exception, my older brother who has relently teased me about my hairloss for years. Although he does confess that my transplants look great, he keeps teasing about the fact that I did it. But he's always been one to tease even when I had my hair.

I have heard from a fair number of guys who tell me their buddies they hang out with tease them endlessly about their hairloss. And they probably tease like that because they know their balding friend is freaked out and/or very self-conscious about it.

There are many guys out there that can relate to this!

Gillenator, the only thing that scares me out of transplants in the future is the possibility of someone knowing that I had the procedure done, like a girlfriend or something. I don't mind telling people, it's just that I don't want passerbys to notice my hair, like a toupee or something.

I'm sorry. What I mean is, if I go to a good surgeon, like Dr. Feller, Cole, Armani, or H&W, will people know that I had the procedure done just by looking at my end result?

I don't want the hair transplant to look too fake. Also, I don't want people thinking I'm fake.

Aplunk1,

Every Doctor you mentioned is very surgically talented so I don't see how you could go wrong there. You obviously are doing your research which I commend you for! I really don't think anyone would notice you had a hair transplant unless you cut your hair so short in the donor zone that the linear scar would show.

Hey jeffsss,

I could not help from laughing at your comments in your last post here. I bet you are the life at the party!

Aplunk1,

Don't worry because like I said before, you are considering some talented docs. You seem like a nice enough dude so just be yourself and no one will think any different of you. :)

Uh, Sure thing gil, There is nothing faker than a hair transplant. If you are worried about being "found out" it definateley not for you. There is nothing natural about them.

This is all too confusing for me.

Plunk, you don't need one. Take it from me - you're nowhere close. Mahair is correct by the way....even the "good ones" look a bit off. Steer clear my friend, you're doing better than fine.

Yeah-- I'm still getting regrowth along the temples and hairline, so it's probably not a good idea. But a comforting thought, sometimes.

I met a girl the other night, and she didn't look twice at my hair. She just ran her hands through my buzzcut because it felt good. Although I don't usually let people touch my hair, I was having a good time myself :) lol, I got laid... and it was, of course, random.

Of course your transplants looked botched. That's why you're so angry! But there are plenty of us who did proper research and found the right talented and ethical docs and got great results. Not everyone gets whacked like you did.

Aplunk1,

If you want to see what good natural looking hair transplants look like just e-mail or PM me and I'll e-mail you my pics! :D

Aplunk1,

No one needs to be in a rush to get a hair transplant. Keep doing your research and go as long as you can. Try to not let your emotions get the best of you and learn from mistakes others have made.

The ones who make uninformed emotional decisions usually are the ones who see the incompetent doctors, they get botched and then they go and try to insist to everyone they can that hair transplants suck. These guys come and go all the time. We all know that.

Yet they turn right around and take free corrective surgeries all day long, as long as they do not have to pay for anything. Take note that they NEVER talk about that, how they behind the scenes are pleading with any hair transplant doctor that will listen to them for a free surgery. What a hypocrisy! :freaked:
