I think you're similarly diffuse like me Buck so f*** do I understand this. There's nothing worse than a thinning guy who thinks he can grow it out and give the illusion of hair, the ONLY option is to keep it pretty damn short, and constantly gauge, practically down to the day, when it's getting too long and when it's time to cut. I sometimes decide on a "whim" (if you could call it that, I think it's calculated) that right now I absolutely have to get my hair cut, it's gone past the point where it's short enough to give the illusion of some form of density. If it goes any longer it's just strands, and the pointing up strands of the fringe remind me of a depleting chopped up forest.

So on any day between about 3-5 weeks I decide that it's just gotten too long and it's time to trim it again, the next morning.
Has to be done. So anyone who could suggest I "grow it out" would be sick at the results, its amazing how people think hair works, because they never have to worry about it.
Some, not many, are so stupid that on some subconscious level they really do think that you can just grow more if you wanted to. They don't really think this through (or are incapable of it) but in the back of their heads they don't process why you don't have more hair, as if bald guys are bic'ing, combovering, thinning, all for the fun of it.
But a more common stupid opinion from otherwise normal people, is thinking "you can just grow it out as it'll look like more hair" uhm, f*****g no! Parts of the hair are f*****g gone! Done! So it's not like the rest of the strands still growing provide some coverage, like an upside down mop.
It just gets more transparent the more it grows, pretty simply really, you see right through it. With short hair it's less open to patchy scrutinising parts.
