Alternative to Spectral DNC-L? (Any minoxidil users plz help!)

Hi there, so I've been using Spectral DNC-L for over two years now, I'm starting to look for alternatives to it now though, for several reasons:

1.) Price. $50 a pop, and the tiny bottles only last me about 2.5, 3 weeks tops.

2.) Efficacy. I feel like Spectral is starting to lose it's effectiveness on me. My hair loss has definitely slowed down since I've been using it, but my hair line is still receding.

3.) The smell, and the greasiness. Sick of it. I can't grow my hair out to a longer length because of it. Leaves the hair along my hair line looking clumpy, greasy, and gross. Smells rather nasty as well.

Also, I usually wear a hat to bed because of this, because I don't want the greasy Spectral getting all over my pillow. I don't have a girl friend right now, but I'm concerned that when I do get one, wearing a hat to bed will be seen as strange and annoying, and I'd like to able to cuddle without her having to smell the nasty Spectral smell.


Any suggestions for alternatives here? Anyone here using Spectral that can relate with some of my concerns? Does anyone use Spectral and have a girl-friend that can relate with the smell and greasiness issues? (please don't make some lame word-play comment about that sentence.)

Btw, I'm open to all suggestions, but mostly interested in cream-based products that use minoxidil.

I've used Spectral L before and very familiar with all the issues you listed, especially the smearing and staining on the pillow case. It's gross! Like you, I am desperately searching for a cream base minoxidil and haven't really have much luck. I am currently looking around for pharmacists that can compound minoxidil and other active ingredients (retinoic acid, ketoconazole) in a cream/gel base formula. Wish me luck! Btw, DNC spectral (liquid) works pretty well if you don't mind the mess.

I did not have any problem by using DNC-L before, I used it 2-3 hours before I went to bed.
You can try DNC, it gets dry in just a few minutes, it is quite clean. I have used both DNC and DNC-L for 2-3 years, DNC did gave me some regrow at one time, but DNC-L has never done anything to even stop my hairloss.
