Am I Balding Or Is It Just Mature Hairline?

I am 22 years old. I've always had a high forehead even as a kid, and my temples have probably been about the same for a few years now. I don't think my hair is thinning, I have a normal amount of hair shedding and I feel like the camera angles make this look a lot worse compared to when I'm just looking in the mirror.

I'm sure I'll go bald at some stage in my life, but I just don't want to go through it in my 20's or 30's. My friends and family tell me that this is in my head and that I will be fine but I just thought I would get a second opinion as to whether you guys think I am balding or if I just have a mature hairline.

Look don't listen to the "mature hairline" crap. Its really just a politically correct way of saying slight male pattern baldness. The phrase is really being pushed online a lot by hair transplant doctors as an excuse to offer sub-par results and not transplant temple areas - which are difficult to do because of the different angles of hairs.

To answer your question though yes it looks like you will continue to bald. I am basing this on the fact that your temporal triangles are almost completely gone - male pattern baldness not "mature hairline"

Also if you want to buy into the "mature hairline" idea. The test is this. Draw a straight line across your head from the lowest point of your hairline. Measure the distance vertically from that line to the highest receded point of your temple area if the temple area receeds more than 2/3 (two thirds) of an inch it is considered male pattern baldness.

I would suggest Rogaine and Propecia. I have gotten zero sides from either.

Also would appreciate it if you would answer mine https://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/intera...-make-me-look-to-old-to-be-in-college.112036/

On a different note . DON'T listen to your family or not balding friends. When i was in your situation i went to my parents (i was 16) and my mom insisted i was fine. Fyi N3 clearly balding now

Your family just wants to make you feel better and may not be very knowledgeable about balding process

My dad lost his hair in his late 20’s and my grandpas on both sides have full heads of hair. So don’t think that’ll solve anything!

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I’ll go to the doctor and see what they recommend. Want to catch it as early as possible!

Good for you man. A lot of people stay in denial and barely do anything til it's too late. Don't forget to sk your doctor about Propecia, minoxidil and other treatments. Feel free to update us with the outcome :)

Very accurate way. 2/3 inches is good measure or 1.69 cm for euro cucks @blackg

I'm 5mm higher in the corners from a complete straight line. You need a slight lift especially after surgery.

Euro cuck here
I'm 18 and I can feel about 1.5 cm of my temples are disappearing slowly but surely (there's still hair but it's much darker around them, and hairs on this specific area of my temples are shorter than the rest, so I assume it's thinning). Fortunately there's no sign of thinning elsewhere. Am I fine or does male pattern baldness usually start this way then goes on later on?

You're receding.

Hate to tell you on this, but it's long over due for you to jump on the
medication band wagon. Time to start on finasteride and Minoxidil.

I had hair density like you, at the same age.

And let me tell you something, when it happens this young (early twenties), it usually means
your baldness will be agressive. People who lose hair at a younger age tend to get it worse
than people who start balding in their thirties, or later.

@lachie

If you start medication now, you probably will go back to Norwood zero.

Also, use the Minoxidil on your hairline. At a young age, it probably will regrow
the entire hairline back.

However, Finasteride is MORE important. That will allow you to keep your
regrowth gains.

Pictures are best. Sounds like a mature hairline could be developing or male pattern baldness.

His left looks mature (one centimeter above), I agree, but his right, there appears to be hairloss
behind on his right temple.

I don't know if that was the case with your hairloss or not. I had blonde hair at his age.

(Now it's a mix, because of Touch of Gray :p).

I also had the same baldness, believe it or not, at his age. My girlfriend at the time, who works at
a salon, told me it was receding (I asked) at 19. She was right. At twenty, people made comments
about it.

Mature hairlines are made up my hair transplant doctors? Right...

And your balding test is complete BS.

Don't give anyone false hope. Regrowing a NW0 is extremely rare.

First, Do your research buddy. As far as my test goes http://www.hairlossdaily.com/mature-hairline/
And
https://baldingblog.com/2006/10/06/juvenile-vs-mature-hairline-am-i-going-bald-with-photos/

If you are to lazy to read the whole article as it looks like you are; since you did not read my whole post— look under the section “measuring a mature Hairlines” you will find 2/3 inch being the accepted standard.

Second, don’t misquote me. I never said the term “mature Hairline” was made up by the hair loss industry. The Term or my personal favorite “age appropriate hairline” are pushed by hair transplant doctors so they can skimp on transplanting the temple area- Which as I said are difficult to do because of the different angles of hairs. “Mature hairline” or “age appropriate hairline” It’s just a more attractive way of saying slight male pattern baldness. Any man no matter what age looks better with an N1. George Clooney and Brad pit are good examples.

My argument is this if you are saying a mature hairline is just loss that most men suffer by a certain age; most men are completely bald by 50 so does mean being bald at 50 is a “mature hairline”

FYI mature hairlines are still caused by DHT sensitivity so the process is no diffferent from standard male pattern baldness

Accepted standard? By who? Some vlogger? In that case I was already 'slightly balding' by the age of 10.... People have different head shapes, there is no one size fits all measurement to determine if you are balding.

You should take of your tin foil had if you think the term is being pushed my hair transplant doctors. Mature hairlines are completely normal and should not be seen as balding. A slight bit of weight gain also does not make you obese.

What does “perfectly normal“ mean to you? I really am curious because you never addressed my argument. Yes, most men lose some hair by age 35. But most men go completely bald so I fail to see your logic in saying “perfectly normal” when it applies to balding itself.

2/3 inch is on the high end for recession although I doubt 1 or 2 mm extra would get noticed. If you go much past that you are entering balding territory. You are in denial if you think anything significantly past that measurement is not noticeable

Your comparison to weight is flawed for several reasons. First weight gain is reversible. Imagine if it was not. You start off with the body of an Olympic athlete, chiseled abs and great muscles. Then every pound of fat you gain can’t be reversed. Let’s use your analogy of a couple of pounds now. Would you have the attitude of - “hey I have a potbelly but look alright with a shirt on” - or more likely you would think “Maybe I should get on some preventative treatments to make sure I don’t get worse”?

I’m not saying go and get an hair transplant for an N2. But is is much easier to keep the hair you have. Once hair is gone it rarely can be regrown even with medication. I think N2 is a good time to start preventative treatments especially if it is happening at a young age teens- early twenties since DHt sensitivity increases with age.

I hold to my comment about doctors pushing that term. You get a lot of doctors claiming they won’t restore N1s because it is not “age appropriate” and an older person with a N1 will look goofy. I have yet to see someone of any age look bad with an N1. I’ve stated my comment about the difficulty transplanting the temple areas so I won’t repeat that.

Which of these sounds better to you? “We can restore a normal “mature hairline” for your age” or “we can restore your hairline to being slightly recessed/balding.” They are the same but saying “mature hairline” sounds so much better than slight balding.

Please please please tell me how a “mature hairline” being “Perfectly normal” is different from balding being perfectly normal.
