Most NHS GP's will never prescribe finasteride to a balding guy, they just don't care about balding - see it as a non issue.
And yeah a shed is normal, I had one on finasteride. I think your work colleagues are right, without finasteride, I give you 3 more years to NW5

Hi,

It's been almost 2 months since I started Avodart, Minoxidil and Nizoral shampoo.

This is my hair when I started.

This is it now.

Has it got worse? Should I be worried?

Has it got worse?

You expect results in two months without taking into account anagen, telogen and catagen phases of hair growth that last up to or more than 4 months or even the fact that hair grows roughly 1cm per month? Dude you're not going to see results until AT LEAST 6 months in.

Should I be worried?

Yes, you're balding, lol.

Hi, things were going really well on the Dutasteride/Minoxdil 5% and my hairdress even commented how thick my hair had become (not knowing I was on anything)...until about a month ago when I began shedding a very large amount. My hairline is now at it the worst it's ever been.

I did experience shedding in the first month but nothing as much as this.

Will I stop shedding? Should I keep going?

Many thanks,

Finasteride does not cause permanent sides, it has been shown in study after study unlike the guy above me says. Side effects are mild, occur in only 2% of people, and go away after discontinuing treatment

This is completely untrue and dangerously misleading. The idea that finasteride doesn't cause persistent and possibly permanent side effects has been eroded in the last few years of medical research. Google "post-Finasteride syndrome" and you'll find plenty of studies and publications to prove this. In 20 years from now we'll be wondering what the hell we were doing taking it.

Finasteride is "safe" for most people, and will most likely help your hair, but you should take it with caution, do your own research and consult a medical professional before taking it.

I'm still shedding loads of hair. Looks terrible from above.

Looks like a slight improvement to me, definitely has not worsened in my opinion. Bare in mind you will never regrow everything you have lost, but it looks like you are maintaining. Go for a hair transplant if you want to improve the hairline etc. Good luck!

Try consulting with a professional in hairloss such as a Trichologist. A Trichologist will be able to consult with you about options that would be best for YOU rather than shooting in the dark. Not all treatment responds the same. Many factors should be considered for optimum results.

A year and a half later...

I've taken Avodart and used Minoxidil every day since my last post.

What do you guys think? Better or worse?
