I think from the pics below it is unfortunately probably the latter.

I am approaching 27 and have always had a really thick and good head of hair. My dad had a good head of hair when he died at 60 and my mums dad the same when he died in his late 70s... is the hereditary thing a myth ?

Can anyone please advise on the pics ? They look 'worse' than I feared...

Its only really recently, like since the turn of the year ive started to think im receeding.. i havent notice any substantial hair loss in the shower/on my pillows etc.

I have always had a massive forehead and those bits of hair at my side burns which seem to stand alone have always been there too

But judging by the pics something is going on - can people please advise on any treatment too as I am a complete novice in this field.

Really appreciate any help! Thanks.

I can relate to this post so well, only difference is that I'm 7 years younger..Sadly I think we are receding m8. And finasteride is prescribed although you can buy it online for a bit more without a prescription.

Can you shed any light on what 'stage' I am at ? And is the hereditary thing a myth then ?

You can buy Finasteride online but a lot of times it ends up being cheaper with a prescription. You're like Norwood 2.5 or 3. male pattern baldness can be passed down from a few generations back if I'm not mistaken.

Okay thank you - can you give me a brief over view of what Finasteride does ? Obviously its not going to help grow my hair back but I presume it thickens hair or something along them lines ? Any side effects etc ?

Also is there any reason why it would come on so suddenly (or appear to!) ? I really hadn't noticed anything up until recently... The other thing is - will it continue to recede into the latter stages ?

With long hair like we have, it's hard to notice until you hit Norwood 2.5 or 3. Especially if you have no crown thinning.

It has probably been going on for a while but you just noticed it now. That much recession wouldn't really happen that much over a month or two.

Finasteride stops the production of DHT the main hormone that causes hair loss. If you don't do anything it will continue to get worse. Realistically you can expect to maintain what you have on Finasteride, with thickening and regrowth being a bonus. For regrowth, I would look into minoxidil (Rogaine) too. There are sides but I feel like a lot of them are waaayyy overblown in my opinion. Google it and you'll find them. There are a lot of users on here, including myself, on Finasteride who had no problems but side effects are possible.
