Hi, just wondering if 40 is too old to start finasteride? In a nutshell, I'm almost 40 been slowly losing hair since i was a teen but is really starting to get noticeably thin near the middle-front and at the crown. Been on minoxidil for over a year with little to zero benefit and just started finasteride two weeks ago, but have since read that it's useless when you're over 40. Anyone know if that's true? Or is the rule just start it while you still have as much hair as poss? Advice would be much appreciated.

Lmao, Finasteride doesn't magically stop working when you're over 40, in fact I'm pretty sure it's less risky to take Finasteride at 40+ because your prostate is fully developed.

I think the reason why Finasteride supposedly works better in people under 40 is because Finasteride works best when hair loss is the most recent.

You should be good with Finasteride, if you've got that much hair at 40, is say finasteride will help you keep it for a long time

So you are 40 years old and those pics are recent pics of your hair?

If true, at this rate you will probably hit NW1 when 60 years old.

-If this is a troll thread you need to get a life
-if somehow this for real you need a mental health expert advice

Your hair looks perfect. If you had been losing hair since your teens without a DHT blocker you’d likely be bald or near bald by now.

Just because you can see scalp where your hair parts or changes direction, it does not necessarily mean you are balding, this can be a very normal attribute. It is also more pronounced in individuals with darker hair and light skin - throw fine hair in to the mix and it exacerbates this further.

I’ve no issue with finasteride and you’re not too old to take it - but given the facts, the photos and your age, I genuinely would seek the opinion of a qualified hair loss specialist before taking medication to remedy a problem you do not appear to have.

Your hair looks great.
