Am I too late to start treatment?

Hello Everyone. I've discovered this forum a few weeks ago, and just made an account. I'm 24 years old now, and i've been losing my hair since I was 17. I'm thinking about starting the big 3, but I wonder if it's not already too late.
I had an appointment with my GP a while back, and he's willing to prescribe Finasteride. But he also told me it probably wouldn't do much in my case, because i already lost too much hair. So i'd like to have your opinion on this.

So this is how my hair looks right now: http://imgur.com/a/RMdLm

As you can see, just keeping the hair i have left won't be enough. I don't care about the temples, but the hair on top of my head would have to thicken up quite a bit to get acceptable results. But there are still lots of tiny hairs all over my scalp. Could these become normal, healthy hairs again?

So, is it worth it to get on the big 3 right away? Or should i just get it over with and shave it all of?
Thanks.

Check this thread out. http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/interac...just-starting-finasteride)?highlight=peapoddy

It's a guy who was roughly in the same state as you are before beginning the big 3. He was a good responder to the treatment, but you could be just as lucky :)

Good luck!

I can't say whether it is too late, but the only way to know is to try.

If you can get over it and shave it off, I would say to do that. Being part of this hair loss community sucks. But if you are like most of us here and don't want to go that route then I would say yes get on treatments. Although your hair loss is aggressive, you have age on your side. You have only been losing hair for 7 years, so there is a good chance you will get some/most of that back.

You may be an awesome responder, but don't get too disappointed if you are not. For most of us treatments will take over a year to get the full benefit. Don't give up after 2 months because you didn't grow all your hair back. We have all seen the very rare cases of guys going from NW5 to NW1 on minoxidil alone. Accept the fact that most likely it is not going to be the same with you.

If your comfortable with how you will look shave or buzz it very close, maybe grow some stubble/beard, it can be a good look for some guys and get on with life... if your not then yeah you could try big3 for a year and see what results you get, your still young and may get excellent results, thickening and regrowth . You still have hair on top but its miniaturised so it may thicken up with treatments and you could fill in bit more with transplant in future...
.... Its time to decide now as you will be slick bald on top within 2 years with no treatments

Thanks again for the replies!
So I decided to try treatment, and I've started Finasteride and Minoxidil a few days ago.

I have one more question. Does anyone have experience with Revita shampoo? Should I use that instead of Nizoral? It has a lot more ingredients, not just Ketoconazole.

Those 25 and younger are typically the greatest responders to treatment. Your age group typically sees more regrowth than their older counterparts. Also, your hair loss seems to be mostly in the middle of the scalp which is the area that responds the best to current treatments. So you have that going for you. If you decide to go down that path, it's a lifetime decision -- unless some amazing human discovers a way to kill this rampant disease more effectively than current treatments.
