Antiandrogen vs. DHT inhibitor

I'm not really current with the war on hairloss (never was!), but these are still the two main weapons right? Or are there newer options for maintaining hair? Are DHT inhibitors more effective than androgen blockers? Sorry for all the questions i've got alot of them :)

depends on the DHT inhibitor. finasteride (DHT inhibitor) is by far the most effective thing there is (with dutasteride) but Revivogen (DHT inhibitor) isn't that great, although some people say some good things about it. spironolactone is an antiandrogen, but doesnt seem to be as effective as some people would like. although if u use dutasteride, u should use spironolactone to counter the 104% increase in testosterone in the scalp for your hairline.

finasteride is not a DHT inhibitor. It's a 5alpha reductase inhibitor. Just wanted to clear that up.

although if u use dutasteride, u should use spironolactone to counter the 104% increase in testosterone in the scalp for your hairline.

Why? You're quoting that from Rittmaster's study but a lot of people doubt his results. Testosterone may very well stay within the normal ranges on dutasteride.

I use finasteride, will that cause an increase in scalp test that needs to be dealt with? My hairline is still receding after a year of finasteride.

no, u should only worry about the increase in scalp testosterone if you're using dutasteride..... unless u take 5mg of finasteride a day of course!

Jayman,
there's no point in us arguing about this anymore. it's obvious you don't think it's necessary to put something on your hairline if you're taking dutasteride to fight the increased testosterone. whether it's a 104% increase or some other number doesn't matter. just go on the dutasteride forum to see all the people talking about how dutasteride either increased or didn't stop or slow their frontal loss. and considering your hairline is more sensitive to androgen hormones (since they're usually the first to go), it's sensible to conclude that such an increase in testosterone, an androgen hormone (even if it is 30 times less potent than DHT), will have an effect on your hairline!

that's not reasonable to conclude and keep in mind that people who have bad results from drugs are much much more likely to join online forums than people who have great results. your sample size here is so small.
