Just curious if anyone has anything to say about http://www.propeciahelp.com

Seems to be a bunch of people who have continued to experience side effects afeter stopping usage and/or are having trouble getting their hormones back in check.

As someone who started this drug today, I can't say I'm overly pumped to read this stuff. Here is a study posted that discusses some adverse affects of the drug.

Not looking to scare anyone or bash the drug......just looking for opinions.

That site freaked the sh*t outta me when I started, but its best not to think about it. If you start experiencing sides that you dont feel you cant put up with and they havnt subsided with time, then stop the drug. Dont start worrying about sides before you experience them

I hear ya.....that was my thought all along. If I get sides that bug me too much then stop taking it. However these guys are all complaining of long term effects they have after stopping the drug.

Those sites do put you off, until you realise they fly in the face of clinical evidence. I haven't had any sides at all. Same as most people. Don't let other peoples experiences put you off or give you sides that are only pyschosomatic. Those with problems are invariably those who stick around to bleat about it.

I was an ignorant person like you once, before I popped Finasteride. Stayed on it for 11 months while the mental, sexual, and physical sides continued to get worse under the assurance by Merck that this they would "go away" with time as my body adjusted to the drug and that they would cease after discontinuation.

Needless to say her I am 20 months later with many of the sexual and physical changes to my body still present -- shrunken + shrivelled penis/nuts, decreased ejaculate volume, gyno, loss of morning/nocturnal/spontaneous erections, genital numbness, and total loss of sex drive to name a few. You're telling me that the fact my dick has physically shrunk, is constantly retreating, that I got gyno, that my penis feels lifeless and totally numb, that my jizz volume is 25% of what it was before the drug, that I no longer wake up with morning wood or experience nocturnal erections, and all the rest of it is in my head? Get a clue.

I know how I was for the first 25 years of my life before I popped that pill, and I know what it did to me, and I have the bloodwork to prove it as do so many other men on that site -- the majority of us are now in a state of Secondary Hypogonadism with low Testosterone, LH, FSH, DHT and often elevated Estradiol/Estrogens or SHBG.

You need to read the FAQ on that site because unfortunately for SOME men, this is a very real phenomenon and trust me, the more guys that take this drug and report it the more exposure it gets, and you naysayers will be eating your ignorant words in the end -- either that or you might end up getting sides down the road yourself... nobody knows -- not even some of the top doctors, including Dr. Eugene Shippen who wrote The Testosterone Syndrome and is an active advocate against Finasteride use due to thh rare and dangerous complications from 5AR inhibitors -- can say when, how or why certain men gets sides and why out of those men, some don't recover after quitting.

Realize that if you are taking a drug that messes with the delicate balance of your endorcrine system, there are no guarantees it will return to its pristine state after you quit. And by depriving your body of DHT -- a critical male hormone necessary for libido, proper genital tissue maintenance/function and much more -- and 5ARII -- necessary for a number of vital functions in the body, including metabolism of 5AR-derived neurosteroids -- you are messing with more than what Merck labels their drug to do.

Read the FAQ on propeciahelp.com for more info.

Those sites do put you off, until you realise they fly in the face of clinical evidence

Wrong. Read the studies in the Finasteride Studies and Other Studies sections of http://www.propeciahelp.com for your "clinical evidence" you say doesn't exist.

There is plenty about the dangers of this drug, you just choose to ignore it and label those who experience such side effects as liars and that everything is in their heads... totally ridiculous, considering these sides are listed by Merck right on the drug's insert (ED, libido loss, decreased seminal output, gyno etc).

The problem is Merck does not disclose the truth that there is a chance that if you get such side effects, there is the possibility they may not resolve after you quit. Believe it or not, it's the truth and I'm just one of many guys that is living proof of this.

Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Typical response, as expected from guys who have no experience with such things and are simply here to discredit those that do. I'm sure every single guy that's ever complained about sides is a liar eh? Right.

You want to keep your head in the sand about the dangerous possibilities of this drug for a small percentage of men, go right ahead. But if you ever get the side effects and if they don't resolve after YOU quit, you'll be eating your words. Trust me on that.

Have fun poppin those pills.

Every medication has the potential for side effects and that includes finasteride. It is an enzyme inhibitor that affects your hormonal system, it is always a risk that your body wont react well to it. It is about balancing risk and rewards. Hysterical scaremongering doesn't do that to be frank and the overwhelming weight of the evidence supports the view that the minority who get sides will reverse on discontinuation. The overwhelming view of the medical community is that Finasteride 1mg is a safe and effective way to treat the symptoms of male pattern baldness.

Ok let's just go bald in our 20's instead then, yeah that'd be great
Jesus, every time I've got a headache and pop an aspirin I run the risk of dying don't I? Every time I cross the road I could get hit by a bus.

I'm not being ignorant and if you have those sides, I'm genuinely sorry. It's not that I don't believe you but you ARE in the minority and we don't need this kind of scaremongering being shoved down our throats, especially to the newbies. For many, propecia is a lifeSAVER.... my only regret is I didn't go on it 2 years sooner while I still had cosmetically acceptable hair because I might as well be limp dicked and have no sex drive for all the depression and mental pain I have to go through every day at being a 24 year old with hair like an OAP.

amen, my sentiments exactly. Wish I'd jumped on 2 years ago when mine was asthetically acceptable too!

yeah wash n gone is right. I was gonna say something like that but he already did. Drugs are just attempts at fixing big problems and that means making big changes to something in your body. Its worth a shot for some people with major hairloss that effects their lives.

I am wondering if people with prostate problem who pop Proscar, which is 5 times the dosage has similar side effects.
If Propecia is a culprit, then the same must be said about Proscar. Right?

Honestly, I don't want to blame this on you, but it sounds like if you noticed the sides getting worse and worse for 11 MONTHS, you should've quit. There are guys here who quit if the sides don't get better after 3 weeks, and you lasted on it for that long? I would've killed myself if I had done that.

it's the exact same hormone, exact same mechanism, exact same pharmacology, it's not like it is being "off labeled" DHT was know to cause male pattern baldness when they were creating proscar
