I'm currently on Propecia, been taking it for about 7-8 months with no real improvement and i'm not even sure if it stopped my receding hairline. But, I'm going to try Propecia for at least a year and see how it works but I was wondering if I started to use Nizoral are there any side effects from using Nizoral such as shedding or nething like that? Is it a good idea to go onto Nizoral? Basically what disadvantages are there to start using Nizoral, if there are any... and where do you buy this stuff?

no ..there are studies that show.. that the combo nizoral/finast works better than finasteride alone.. (just as good as finasteride/minoc) ...but nizoral has NO side effects ...minoxidil..is known to cause shedding...
nizoral works different..its anti inflamattorie and probably disturbs..the formation of DHT in the scalp..

I would add minoxidil now. Also, rotate TGEL with Nizoral on an every two week basis.

No disadvantages on nizoral, only upside.

Hair loss should be attacked on at least 4 different fronts: anti-androgens, anti-inflammation, anti-fungal and growth stimulation.

Anti-androgens - propecia, topical spironolactone (which I have found to work just as well as propecia), distance running (can reduce free testosterone over 60%), low fat diet, fiber

Anti-Inflammatin - T-Gel, Nizoral, Copper Peptides, Oral Omega 3's, ect...

Stimulators - Minoxidil, Copper Peptides

Anti-Fungal - Nizoral (fungus causes immune reaction and inflamation resulting in hair loss)

By only using just Propecia you are only solving 1/4 of your hair loss problem. It's not a surprise that you haven't had success with just Propecia.

Dogfather,

7-8 months is not enough time to see if propecia is acutally working, and if you're not sure it's stopping you receding then that might be a GOOD THING. Add nizoral right away, and stay away form minoxidil and all that other bull sH*t for now. After 12-14 months and you're sure propecia is not even maintaining then start adding other treatments.

JesusFreak.

Again, where study that says running reduces free test by 60%. Also I would say that with propecia you're combatting 75% of the problem, not just 1/4. Remeber hairloss is a chain of events, starting with DHT.

I've only used nizoral once (1%) and it burned the bejesus out of my scalp. But my scalp was still inflammed from the allergic reaction I had from minoxidil. The 5% minoxidil caused thousands of tiny painful bumps on my scalp. They were starting to get better when I tried nizoral but it caused them to flare up worse. The nizoral felt fine when I was lathering it but when I got out of the shower it burned like fire. Am I allergic to it or does it just do this when the scalp is inflammed? I'm thinking of trying it again anyway.

Doggfather: I haven't heard of any side-effects but I'd recommend using 1% rather then 2%. I've heard a few testimonies from people claiming that 2% was just too harsh and ended up "shreding" their scalp. Haven't heard anyone complain about 1% yet.

Oh, so I guess my testimony doesn't count? J/K

Sorry don't know how I missed that. It seems to be a common trend that people with extreme inflammation/irritation cannot fully relieve with nizoral alone. I think it works best in conjunction with other anti-dandruff shampoos or folligen.

Jesus Freak,

Can you explain your statement about running and its of lowering free testosterone. That is very interesting
