Title. Take one in the morning, and take it at night the next day.

Reason being mainly half lives I guess, and to give your liver less of the drug. I hear different values on the half life, but it appears its around 6 hours. So
Hour 0--> 1mg
Hour 6--> .5mg
Hour 12--> .25mg
Hour 18--> .125 mg (Below maximal 5 AR inhibition potential)
Hour 24--> .0625 mg
Hour 30--> .0313 mg
Hour 36--> .0156 mg

I'm guessing that Merck made it a daily pill due to this fact, so you always keep maximal 5AR inhibition.

I hear people talking about taking every other day due to sides. Since the expected results of finasteride are maintenance only, is every other day able to maintain or what results can be expected from an every other day program?

I also hear some take it at night and some in the morning. People say there is more DHT at night so its better to use at night. Personally I would rather take it in the day and crush DHT and leave some for my body at night when everything can recover. And if you are really paranoid about hairloss its not too tough to apply S5 night cream to cover finasteride's job. Thoughts on time of day?

Hmmm... good question.

I never really knew how to do EOD, but my schedule has been simple: morning x-day, skip y-day, morning z-day. Basically every other morning. I have wondered if that was too far apart. Do most people who do EOD do it morning, then next night? And if it's .5mg (which is my dosage) should it be an even shorter interim?

Guess I'm just echoing your query.

Half life is the time the drug needs to be on a 50% concentration in the blood, but how long lasts its effect is hard to know (for instance finasteride+5alfa reductase form an enzyme complex which turnover is very slow and there are other circumtances to take into account). In young men elimination half life in plasma is in a range of 3-16 hours, that 6 hours mark is calculated but not exact. There is also a slow accumulation phase for finasteride after multiple dosing. That is, after dosing with finasteride for days, plasma concentrations of finasteride are higher than after the first dose.

Moreover, it is known that finasteride reduce approximately 70% of serum DHT but after discontinuation of therapy the return of DHT levels to pretreatment levels takes weeks, so the inhibition seems to last longer and little by little dissapear.

My opinion if it can help: Everybody is different and you have to find your proper regimen as 1mg/ day is just the old standard dosis/time. Also clinical pharmacology doesn´t know everything about finasteride´s behaviour.

However taking into account that lower mgs are able to inhibit similarly and inhibition seems to last more than 24 hours, I think it is wise to try and compare lower dosis and/or separate takings. That way possibly avoid accumulation, sides, etc. It could be safer and still effective.

So I support your idea of trying 1mg every 36 hours. There are people who only take 0,25mg twice a week and they find it effective. So I guess dosis is up to everyone and its effectiveness depends on lots of factors: your age, weight, metabolism, your DHT levels, your follicle androgen sensitivity...

To sum up I think it is wise to find your proper dosis/hour to make the most of the drug. If you can benefit from 0,5mg every other day in the same way as 1mg/day it will probably be better for your body to take a reduced dosis and frequency.
