Hello,

I'm new here and for a while I'M reading this board. I wonder if someone went of minoxidil and shed like mad and went on it and recovered.

I was on minoxidil for 6-7 Months with moderate results..but the cornflakes on my scalp maid my crazy....bad irritation...

Before giong of minoxidil i started with Propecia, I was in month 3 on finasteride when i dropped minoxidil and I'm now bald....you won't believe your eyes....
I manage it in 2 Months to go bald is this possible ? Janueary nice hair...and march I was thinking of jumping from a bridge...

Is this me now ? Are my hair gone ? I started with minoxidil again, this time with Dr.Lees Stuff....I 'must say its great ! No flakes and so on...
So, anyone went of minoxidil, went bald and went on minoxidil again for the second time and got his old minoxidil status back ?

I would like to post the pic's so you can see the damage...but how do I post them...Sorry Newbie !

Thx anyway...

Hi, view my pics.

I did what you did.

Started minoxidil in May 2003, used it for 4 months, good results, stopped for the reasons you said.

Had a massive shed in 4 months, as you can see by the pics. The November pics are horrid.

I re-started minoxidil x2 on December 27th, 3.5 months ago, now it's slowly coming back. It's thickened up. I pray it continues for me obviously.

But yes, stopping minoix was a mistake, use it agin for another 3 months x2 and you should see steady improvment and be happier.

I have also been on finasteride for nearly 12 months now.

First off, you're not bald. This is a perfect example of how the minds eye makes things worse than they seem, and why photos are so important.

Your hair is significantly shorter in the "bald" picture, and it is about 5 shades lighter as well. Both of these factors will affect how thick the hair looks in a photo.

I can see through the "longer hair" pictures, and quite honestly it looks like if you shaved that hair down to the same length, you'd look nearly the same as the "bald" picture.

I am not saying you did not shed. You probably did. However your pictures are not good representations of this. Why? Because you did not keep things the same. This makes it impossible to make an accurate assessment of the density of your hair.

The illusion is there, that you lost a lot of hair, but again, looking at the "thicker hair" pictures, you can see all the skin under it, and it just looks like the length of the hair is laying on top of the thinness... thus the hair length factor.

In any case, you're not bald. Use Finasteride for 1 year before you freak out. If you want to go back on minoxidil and avoid the scaley's, use Folligen spray a couple hours after applying minoxidil, and that should resolve it. Adding and taking away from your regimen is not a smart idea. Once you start something, stick with it.

gourmetstylewellness.com: Your definetly right about choosing a regime and sticking with it for at least a year. Given that hairs that are shed can be in the dormant phase for over 3 months it may take a while before improvement can be seen.

I do disagree with you though about his condition staying relatively similar. Although it makes it a little more difficult to contrast his hair because of the various changes, I believe it's noticably worse in the second photo. He's not bald by any means but the seperation between the hairs seems much more pronounced in the photos without minoxidil.

Becks: By the way, how old are you now? You mentioned being 18 1/2 when you first noticed hairloss.

Yeah i notice it when i was around 18. But i think it started earlier...my pals always said the see my scalp when i put gel on my hair...so maybe 16-17. Another point is I had 3 operations on my left testical...which was finally removed after op. nr. 3 . and all of a sudden i got couverd with spots on my face.....after my spots went away my hairlos begann increasing. I think i done a big mistake starting minoxidil.....the first round ..
my derm told my I should use Propecia when I was 18 but I was too scared ...cause of the side effects....now I#m on it for 6 months...but the minoxidil shed kickme back...

What do you think whats my best treatment right know...dropping minoxidil and continuing only with finasteride or a combo....

Right know I#m loosing hair from side neck and body hair....I hope this is just the minoxidil shed and not the propecia....I need at least one drug to work for me...

I don't think its possible to even make that assessment considering his hair is literally about a half inch to an inch shorter, and the shorter length is so short, it could be likened to a buzz cut. If you stand hair on end, you will see right down to the skin. If you let it grow a bit and lay it flat, you will cover skin up. Length and color are a huge factor. Evidence? Look at the longer hair photos. You can see patches of skin underneath that the hair is just "laying on top" of.

Cut it short and what will you get? Lots of skin.

He's an ideal candidate for Propecia and minoxidil together for 12 full months, with nizoral shampoo every 3rd day and folligen spray to offset the minoxidil irritation and flaking.

I for one would like to congratulate you. I would be happy with those results.

Do you apply the regular 1ml of minoxidil, twice daily? Are you using any other treatments?

What he has achieved is what looks like more hair - regardless of whether it is really more hair or not... so good on you.
