Anyone find that minoxidil worsened their hair loss?

I'm confident that it has made mine worse. Only the areas where I've used it have got thinner - of course this could have happened anyway, but the pattern is strange )one side worse than the other) and works out to be where I probably would have sprayed more on one side than the other.

I'm not talking about initial shedding either (never got that). This is a year later and it's significantly worse in those areas.

I've heard other stories of minoxidil damaging the hair so was wondering if people here have had similar experiences?

If so, can this hair thicken if i stop using it or is it permanently damaged?

yea, something like that happened to me back when I tried it. I would not recommend it, but apparently it really does work for some people. I don't remember a massive shed either.. the hair loss just got worse and thinner in the areas I applied.

What happened to those areas when you stopped using minoxidil?

Has definatly worsened my front hair loss, however its possible that using foam was not really keeping my hair, been on liquid minoxidil and slightly better results oddly.

but its still not like my hair 3 years ago, ill keep it up till this xmas if nothing better results id consider big 3 a failure for me since it didnt stop my hair loss or make my hair better and ill stop all treatments...

In my humble opinion minoxidil and finasteride and even nizoral definately have the capacity to make it worse long term, (after the shedding periods)

Youll find some people who it worked well for, will say thats BS, and assume it must work that well for everyone, and some people whos hairloss got made worse will assume it will make it worse for everyone.

In my experience various drugs that can treat some conditions also have the ablity to cause those conditions. So i guess its a case of whether or not a drug will restore balance, or create an imbalance.

Some examples of treatments that can treat, or cause somethin.

immigran (sumatriptan) can give u a migraine, if u take it when u dont have one, but can cure it if u do have one.

diabetes drugs

blood pressure drugs

anti-inflamatories

im sure theres hundreds of examples.

Thats the thing that sux about current male pattern baldness treatments, is u have to lose hair b4 u have a chance at regrowing it. And it doesnt always regrow.

hmm, i think i shed quite a lot, a lot more than i would've done if i hadn't used minoxidil at all, on my temples especially and my hairline. i started using it at the start of the year and i'm still waiting for it to get better :( i have just started on finasteride and changed my minoxidil from regaine to spectral dnc-l though, the ingredients in it are a lot better and it's better for my sensitive skin. the only negative is the price!

has anyone come up with a viable explanation *why* Minoxidil might
not only not help, but actually *by itself* make a hair thinner? I realize the mechanism by which minoxidil supposedly helps a hair follicle is still not well understood, but how could it further shrink an already shrunken follicle? I could possibly see how a 'normal' healthy follicle might be affected (by overloading it, much the same way that overtraining a muscle can actually do harm), but a negative affect on a damaged follicle seems hard to understand.
I guess anything is possible, but those surprising observations about new hair growth and thickened body hair from oral Minoxidil users didn't seem to be countered by any participants who said their hair got thinner.

My theory: Minoxidil makes more blood flow to the hair follicle so then more DHT gets there with that blood.

but doesn't the dht kill the follicle by restricting blood??

I am in this boat, kinda. Looking at my hair recently and i can't see any improvement from when i started minoxidil at the start of this year. My hairline is getting worse! I wish I hadn't started it then, but started it now when i've just started taking finasteride.

A question for you guys saying minoxidil makes your hair worse: Are you on finasteride or dutasteride? And if so, what dose?

Maybe you were the unlucky 15% that it didn't worked on.

I've been browsing 3-4 hair loss websites (inclding reviews on Amazon) for months and 80% have been positive reviews of Rogaine/minoxidil.

the question is, what is the best DHT blocker along with Rogaine?

I have had considerable increase with Rogain/Revivogen serum-shampoo/Nizoral.. but then, i lose it once a while and then i get it back..

So inconsistent.. i dont know what to do..
