So in the past week I’ve noticed that my scalp is getting itchier and itchier. Past 3 days it’s been kind of red and hot. Last 2 days I’ve noticed that my ears are bright red and itchy, and have now developed this rash. It’s driving me nuts because it feels so raw but I constantly need to itch my head and ears. My hair shedding is worse but that could be from a number of things. Anyone able to shed some light on this? I really haven’t changed much in my regimen other than equol but I doubt that’s the issue.

When i switched to rogaine liquid it really dried out my scalp and gave me bad headaches. Headaches went away but still very flaky. Pretty gross but i can live with that. Scalp gets red and irritated when i use nizoral and head and shoulders dandruff shampoo.

I've had scalp itch/redness/irritation for years (along with bad shedding), but never had ear rash/irritation. So you only started getting these symptoms when you added the equol? Maybe you should temporarily discontinue to see if those symptoms go away? It sucks how sometimes the treatments which are supposed to help can make things worse for some people. For me, ketoconazole and cetirizine made me shed more.

Wow I thought I was the only one that got this side effect. I personally got this side effect from Minoxidil and I tried it multiple times and every time I used it I'd eventually get itchy, flaky, red, burning ears. I used minoxidil with and without pg and always got it. Either I'm allergic to minoxidil or my scalp absorbs topicals way too efficiently and too much goes systemic. I'd get this side effect with 5% minoxidil and even just applying on the hairline. I also got flaky skin on my eyelids and my right temple. The side effect also could have to do with the fact minoxidil is a vasodilator and ears are one of the easier body parts to get really red it seems. Also this happened after using Minoxidil for over 4 months. I had no side effects prior to that. But after that no matter how long I took a break and started again I'd get the same side effects eventually. It could be something else since your regimen is extensive, but I'd guess it's minoxidil since you use the oral form so it's obviously going even more systemic for you.

I have had rashes from minoxidil but never on my ears. You may have a good point though!

Got the same reaction from liquid topical minoxidil 5%. I also tried a non-pg version with the same symptoms. In the end the foam did the trick for me.
This is called contact dermatitis and is most likely caused by a substance you are putting on your skin/scalp.

If you are using minoxidil liquid and got this rash, then dump the liquid variant now! I had same scalp dryness and ear irrigation when i started minoxidil but i continued to use it for months! Ultimately it caused me sebhorric dermatitis! Dump the liquid variant now!

This happened to my ears whilst being on oral minoxidil, it subsided after some time though.
