Anyone have this sympton?

Exactly two years ago I had a six month bout of Telogen Effluvium, followed by a second bout of the same duration a year later.

Anyway, I had an extremely thick head of hear so it was not noticeable to anyone but myself. My hair loss has stopped, but I do find hairs coming out of my head often have a big, white, hardened bulb attached to them. I find this big bulb attached to both mature hairs, and unfortunately, to tiny little hairs which are still trying to grow. It seems almost like they try to grow and then my scalp kicks them out of my head with this bulb attached (which i presume is the follicle?)

I'm not sure why these bulbs are so much bigger, and hard at that. My hairline on the left side of my head is receding slightly, and hairs keep trying to grow back (the area is still quite fuzzy although the hairs appear dormant), however before they can make any headway, they get kicked out again.

Although I don't have excessive thinning, my hair has become thinner and I can't help but think it's related to the way in which my hair is falling out with these attachments. Has anyone else experienced this, or know what would be causing it? My diet is good and I take many vitamins. There is no history of male pattern baldness in my family.

I am considering minoxidil or Revivogen to preserve what I have, however want to diagnose the cause before I try to implement a solution!

Any help appreciated,

I thought this just meant the follicle stopped producing the pigment or whatever, right before it boots out the dead hair. Could be wrong... if it's pigmented, then it's coming out prematurely.

Good thing to check is if you get one of the hairs and really look at it.Now if it gets thinner the closer it gets to the bulb then you may be thinning.I would go check it out with a doctor.Get blood tests done to rule out everything else like if you have a thyroid problem.Make sure you go to a derm though i have found out that regular doctors dont really know what they are talking about.Just guess work in a white coat.

Actually, I find the bulbs on my nice and thick hairs, and the thickness does not decrease the closer I get to the bulb - it is a uniform diameter. I do find these bulbs on some of the smaller hairs coming out.

I think i will try going to the Dermatologist again. I have been to a few specialists and no one seems to know anything. One who specialized in hair didn't even know what the white bulb was (how can you not know?!!), and the other said it was an indicator that hairs which are still in the growth stage are falling out.

I had a blood test for it about two years ago when this first started however I am unsure exactly what they tested for, (ie. if they even looked at Thyroid). Much like you, I have found typical Doctors to know nothing about hair loss, and to be honest, reading this discussion group makes me seem like we all know more about it than many dermatologists!

I sure as hell hope it doesn't mean hairs in the growth phase are falling out, because I think every single hair I've ever lost has that white bulb at the end. That's BAD NEWS for me...
