Hi Guys,

I've been taking finasteride for over 5 years now and although it seemed to work well, my hair has been in a downward spiral for the last year or so. My question is, has anyone taken finasteride for years, seen results, and then when finasteride appeared to lose it's effectiveness switched to dutasteride? Was the dutasteride effective? Most of the posts on this forum point to people starting with dutasteride right away or going to dutasteride very quickly after trying finasteride with minimal results. I'm looking for people that were happy with finasteride for at least a few years, then switched to dutasteride and saw results when the finasteride wasn't making a visible difference.

I switched to dutasteride after nearly 2 years on finasteride with no result. Ive been on dutasteride for nearly a year now, but i dont take it every day due to decrease in libido. It hasnt done any magic on my hair (regrowth), but i think it is stopping further hair loss. Hard to say at this stage....

Thanks for the feedback. Anybody else have any experience with dutasteride after using finasteride for a decent (greater than 6 months) of time?

Is your dose of dutasteride 0.5 mg?

Yes, finasteride for two and a half years, then i thought it was losing effectiveness as my hair was thinning out further.

Switched to dutasteride 0.5mg day, slight regrowth at crown, generl thickening all over and no further loss. I have been on dutasteride for nearly 2 years now.

No side effects except less libido, same as on finasteride.

Very interesting, I think I might give it a shot with a reduced dosage at first. Now I just need to find a supplier that will ship to Canada. I wish I could convince my doctor to prescribe Avodart but I think that's a long shot.
