I'm close to shaving my head and then bic'ing it. I've had a pony tail for ten years and it will be such as system shock. I've had a bed reaction to propecia and I'm shedding loads. Lost loads of density all around my head so just having it short is not an option. I can't really take seeing my hairs all over the place anymore so I'm going to go the topical route for now and hope my hormones return to normal.

The thing is I haven't got the right shaped head for it and I'm worried it will look scary.

Has anyone else been in this situation and how did it turn out after the chop? How did you feel personally? Did it feel like the end of the world or wasn't it as bad as you'd feared?

Regards,
Warren.

I had long (shoulder length) hair for about 5 years then decide to shave my head when I realised it wasnt a good look with receding temples. I just went for a number one.

I didnt regret it, I thought I looked OK although I've let it grow a bit longer again now, but I'll never have "long" hair again.

Go for it, I dont think you'll be unhappy.

ive been considering it

my main problem is that my skin is rather pale so i think a shaved head is gonna make me just look unhealthy... i think its easier to get away with shaved head with a darker skin or atleast a tan

yep, get a tan and hit the gym. That's your ticket. I did shave my head once and it looked pretty goofy, so I grew it back since I still had a good bit to work with and can use Toppik to fill in where my hair needs it.

Get it cut by a professional first, the caesar style haircut seems to be the thinning guys last hope of a decent haircut and most people are pretty happy with how much thicker their hair looks. If you don't like the hair cut then just buzz it first with some clippers and try and see if you have any odd looking marks, scars, etc. on your head because shaving your head to reveal a long lost birthmark you never knew you had would be a bad thing. If you do shave it make sure you get some sun on your head and make sure you wear some suntan lotion or you will get a nasty burn.

I shaved my head last week, first with the 1 blade, then with no blade...

I now look like a f*****g alien.

A f*****g alien with a bald crown.

Plus I tan, so I look like a balding alien with a tan face and a pale scalp.

managuense do you have any pics? If I shave my head I will have to bic it everyday. My hair is SO thin that I probably coudn't get away with a caesar, its that bad. I'll have to wear a cap for a few months.

I shaved my hair 2 months ago after having dreadlocks for 5 years and it is without a doubt the biggest mistake of my life. Prior to cutting my hair there was zero evidence to suggest I was going bald. Now, 2 months on the hair at the crown of my head is thinning and at my temples where there was once 4" inch dreads vellus hairs now occupy. To compound matters I have a head shape which is very unflattering so my advice to you is don't do it unless you have a decent shaped head.

There is a point in the thinning process where before this point long hair can help cover up baldness, like thin templs are no more by parting the hair in the middle and putting that hair behind your ears. I did this for a full year and no one had any Idea I was a norwood 1.5.

Then you reach the point where this no longer works. This is a good time to cut the hair, though I haven't cut mine and I am confined to my room, espeacially the 6-8 hours I have wet rogaine on my temples. A prison of my own demise.

I am afraid to cut it because it will NEVER grow back if I do. I will forever be a conformist or a prisoner.

Switch to Dr Lee's minoxidil it dries in 10 minutes.

I had my hair cut really short last year. Apart from the nut and bolt sticking out of my skull that I had not noticed before. It looked OK

If it dries in ten minutes, how can it absorb? Is it because it's so concentrated.

You might not have to shave it completely bald, I had a good stylist that could work with my hair type (diffuse thinner) before I shaved it. I definitely think that the long thin hair is the worst look. My best advice is to ease into the shaving. You can't just shave your head with a razor if you have long hair and expect it to feel natural. I'd say trim it down (with the aid of a stylist), and then buzz it gradually until you feel comfortable moving to a razor.
