This has really worried me. I have very little body hair. Beard growth isn't bad. But really not hairy at all on legs or chest. I've just started finasteride again, got side effects last time. This has made me think I'm not going to be a responder. Really need regrowth! :(

Any Success stories from anyone with not much body hair??

I had it in my mind side effects ment you were a responder, it's just people give up. :(

Any other people that want to share their body hair/finasteride response - story? I am curious since I am about to start with finasteride in a few weeks and wonder if this would be a predictor of whether it will work for me.

Been on finasteride for two years.

Before finasteride, had very little body hair, no chest hair, somewhat hairy legs, very thin and fair eyebrows, pretty weak facial hair growth.

I seemed to respond to finasteride/minoxidil at the 3-4 month mark, hair has improved and maintained since then. About 1 year into treatment, I started noticing much thicker eyebrow hair, used to be white, now dark red/black. Also noticed much hairier arms. Still not much chest hair. Upper legs got more hairy. Facial hair growth is still weak. Shoulders starting to get down peach fuzz and the start of nose hair growth. I started at 27, I'm 29 now.

No side effects/ Hair regrowth/thickening (from an NW3 class diffuse thinning in a NW5 pattern to an NW2 class patient with good coverage)/maintenance, facial hair still weak, arms more hairy, legs more hairy, thicker eyebrows.

Lots of hair on chest, probably an 8/10 thickness on the Carrell Scale.

Rest of body isn't THAT hairy, my actual chest is very hairy but just below that the rib/stomach hair not as strong. There is hair most other places, thin hair on upper back and some at the lower back, also thighs and legs there's hair but I'd say probably less hairy than a lot of guys.

And sides? Only a month in on finasteride but none yet, increased libido (though it'd probably anger guys who actually get ED if I could consider that a "side") no watery semen or anything.

I'm considering waxing my chest actually, I'm going to avoid asking the dumbest question about whether that could effect anything in terms of giving me sides (could it though?).

Long-time lurker, finally made an account!

To add to the discussion, I've been on finasteride for nearly 6 months now and *think* I may be starting to see some hope (less shedding than before on my Saw Palmetto/minoxidil regimen, hair seems a tad fuller but it could be placebo effect). I'm a fairly hairy guy with a pretty thick mat on my chest, dense leg and arm hair, and some medium-thick but sparse back and upper-arm hair. In may case, I *do* have some sides on 1mg daily. Libido is decreased somewhat, but nowhere near dead. Erections are "healthy" as ever. No testicle pain like some report. The biggest side I've noticed is decreased amount of sperm, and sperm is a bit watery (like others report). Overall it's pretty manageable though I may drop down to 1mg thrice weekly after 12-18 months.

I do feel like I have a little boost in aggressiveness (testosterone), as expected. But it might only be noticeable due to working out and dropping quite a bit of weight, which I began doing around the time I started the finasteride.

My two cents.

I have the hairiest legs and arms. I also have a huge beard and I've gotten just about every side in the book.... it sucks.

BOTTLECAP: I have no body hair (smooth Italian) - have been on Propecia for about a decade and have absolutely no side effects and have had great results. The only other thing I use is Keto (prescription strength) shampoo. While on the subject of the shampoo, I wanted to comment about usage, based on something I read a year ago on this forum (can't find the thread now). One user said he would use a cheap shampoo as first rinse, and then Keto as his second lather. I think this is a bad idea. IMHO, I had read long ago that women were told to rinse their hair before swimming, as the rinse water would prevent chlorine from binding to the hair. I wonder if this could somehow relate. Why take a chance? If you're going to use something, I say give it the best chance of working and go full-force. Just a thought, as I think it would be a shame to go through the motions of something that could have worked well and just get mediocre results. Now, to bring this full circle and back on thread, in ten years I have rarely missed taking Propecia. The most was for two days when I forgot to bring enough with me on vacation. Good luck to you BOTTLECAP.

I'm not sure this small study from Japan is of any significance, I mean c'mon guys (hark back to your statistics classes). First, the sample size was waaaay too small, just makes it statistically insignificant. This would never make the recognized journals.

Second, what was the basis for the "excellent" or "good" results? (I mean an objective measure, not participants reporting their beliefs.)

Third, this is a race specific study (Asian). BTW, I've never seen a pileous Asian, which makes that study group an anomaly to begin with. It's well known that certain races have different types of hormones, digestive enzymes, etc. (i.e., Asians lack the enzyme to properly digest milk). I know we're all looking for the smallest of indicators to put ourselves in the possible success categories ("OMG - I can grow a full beard, so I fit into a category where Propecia will work for me!" or "I don't have a pube on my entire crotch, oh shoot, I won't respond to finasteride"). But this endless speculating based on low-quality data or jumps in logic is absurd!

It's so much more complicated than these quick summaries we're trying to glean from any information that may or may not even be true. Guys, there's something emotionally unhealthy about this (I've been guilty of doing this same type of thinking after reading these boards. Being here for long somehow creates weird, obsessive thoughts, connections and angers. I can't explain it fully, but I've seen it over time in other posters whom I've followed for awhile - thinking becomes thwarted, angry, obsessive, sometimes logic becomes fuzzy. There'll be groups who'll gang up on certain people in this mob mentality state. Others will be glorified in a kind of "halo effect.")

The purpose of this post is to reach out to those, who, like me may have been following in mostly silence, slowly being dragged into this emotional pit of unnatural fluctuations of despair - a rabbit hole of good people and some not so good people. Some hawkers and trolls - and some really good honest and courageous, helpful people. Weeding out who's what and what info is real or useful is exhausting. Putting together tinctures of different recipes and remedies based on anecdotal info - and then getting discouraged if it doesn't work. It's endless, seems futile and is not healthy. For God's sake - do the big three. Grow hair and be done!

I'm going the Law of Attraction way. What you think about you get. Thus I propose a damn name change on this forum to "HairGrowthTalk." Mother Theresa never went to an Anti-War rally, but instead only went to Peace rallies for the very reason I'm proposing this. Believe it or not - agree or not - none of that is my concern, as I can only make the point.

Best of luck to you all. Peace and success to you in every way you that is important to you.

I've read in a few places that old(er) men are less likely to experience side effects on finasteride?? Like, if your hair loss is coming at a more gradual pace at a more common age (over 30), you'll be more likely to have no sides? Whereas, very young guys in their early 20s experiencing rapid hair loss are the most likely candidates to get the sides, having something to do with very active chemicals in their brains causing the early/rapid hair loss not mixing well with the finasteride??

I consider myself pretty hairy and have robust body hair growth in the chest, arms, legs, and to some degree in the back too. I experienced side effects 1 week into taking finasteride. Took it for nearly six months but the side effects persisted and I had no other option but to stop it. Took me another six months to make a complete recovery. Side effects included watery semen, lower libido, less energetic, and muscle pain. My psychological problems seemed to worsen but I don't want to say that they were necessarily due to the drug as I had feelings of hopelessness well before I started finasteride.

Its a shame that this is the only drug which is capable of tackling baldness at the root level.
